I've just recieved the news that my grandma has been diagnosed with cancer of the liver and pancreas and I can't take it all in. I'm just walking round work in a total daze. She's previously had bowel cancer but after an intensive course of chemo she was given the all clear.

woodpops · 24/08/2004 12:39

My mum and dad are at the hospital as we speak talking to the doctors. I'd intended to keep it together but mum rang me back about ½ hour after she told me and I just cracked.

How very sad. Your poor gran, she must be so discouraged after going through all that.
Very sorry.

CountessDracula · 24/08/2004 12:48

Oh no So sorry to hear this. I hope the prognosis is good.

sportyspice · 24/08/2004 13:01

That's so sad having gone through chemo. Hugs

coppertop · 24/08/2004 13:33

Sorry to hear you've had bad news, Woodpops.

Tessiebear · 24/08/2004 14:10

My gran is just recovering from Bowel cancer , so i know exactly what u are going through. Wher my gran was diagnosed i felt numb and weird for days. I think we tend to think our "oldes" are invincible... and dont like to think that one day they are going to die of something ... sorry dont mean to sound morbid!

Kayleigh · 24/08/2004 14:13

So sorry to hear this woodtops. Thinking of you and your family.

woodpops · 25/08/2004 08:28

Thank you everyone for your support. I really needed it yesterday. We don't know where we'll be going from here all of the dr's are having a case conference Friday am to discuss the best course of treatment. An op has been mentioned but is a major op and g'ma has already said she doesn't want another op. We'll just keep our chins up and wait for Friday. Am feeling alot more positive today and g'ma is wonderful. It's as if a huge weight has been lifted just knowing what it is IYKWIM.

Woodpops,

That's awful news. Glad to hear that your Grandma is keeping a positive outlook - you are in my thoughts.

woodpops I'm so sorry to hear this. I lost my Grandma 2 months ago after a long illness and I was devastated. People can often underestimate how important grandma's are to us. What happened on Friday?

woodpops · 30/08/2004 21:14

An op has been mentioned but it is a major op, only 50% of patients survive the op. G'ma had already said no to an op. So she now has to decide if to have chemo or not. I overheard my dad on the phone saying chemo will give her 12 months and to just leave the cancer will give her 6. You're right though prufrock, people do underestimate how inportant grandparents are. Dh isn't from a particulary close family so doesn't understand where I'm coming from. My grandad died 10 days after dd was born, the only thing that kept me going was that he got to meet her!!!! THank you all for your support.

Yay, g'ma is finally coming out of hospital today after 4 weeks. She had a metal stent put in on Friday and is just waiting for details of her chemo.
