Hi,my SIL is getting married in August in her parents garden.

Plenty of space about 3 acres and there will be about 10-15 children between the ages of 5 and 12.

Has anyone got any ideas please for outdoor games to keep them occupied.

Thanks in advance

Get a parachute - they are such fun and adults like to join in as well. For this many people I would get a 6 metre one.

Franny-not quite sure what you mean?

you can get them in tesco too now (smaller ones)

I've seen large versions of snakes @ ladders/chess/jenga/drafts/connect 4 in Tesco/Asda/Home Bargains and that cheap bookshop I can't think of the name of

BTW Franny - what do you do with a parachute - i've seen pics of kids at playschemes holding them in the local paper but what do you play with them?

WanderingTrolley · 09/06/2007 18:08

treasure hunt - hide scrunched up balls of foil to swap at the end

relay races involving scooters, bikes and space hoppers, and assault courses

take as many dressing up costumes as you can find and tell them to put on a show

and if it's raining, mud pies

These are good quality, strong ones

TTT it depends on the ages of children and the number of people playing, but some easy things to get started are to bounce a ball / balls on it, let the children run underneath it, make a tent with it, play games like ring a roses with it, whoosh it up to the ceiling by all letting go at the same time, etc

with older children you can play tag and racing games on it / under it

Thanks for that Franny - I wouldn't have thought of all that - might invest in one for the summer hols

FrannyandZooey · 09/06/2007 18:25

TTT they're wonderful, I would highly recommend one

fantastic for groups of adults and children together in a situation where they adults might feel a bit silly "playing"

On no account buy this book however, it is rubbish

this one although horribly expensive, is very good, but I am happy to share more detailed instructions and ideas with anyone that wants them

Agree parachutes are great. dd's school has one and I've seen the teacher use is for maths/number games with the younger children.

Water pistols are always popular - but you'd need spare clothes for that
