clothes for a newborn - how much is too much?

I'm busy sorting through all DS's old baby clothes to get them in boxes in some sort of order ready so that when the new baby arrives (not for ages yet) I will be able to get at what I need easily.

So, I've gpt DS's baby clothes and also clothes that friends have given me and I think that perhaps I have too much. I know the newborns can be sicky etc and I do remember getting through more than one outfit a day sometimes but even so, how many vests and how many babygrows do you think I really need at any one stage?

To be honest I don't remember my young baby needing that many outfits - but I do remember that alot of the things that I had bought were either too small to start off with or were outgrown rapidly. Personally if I was doing it again, I'd probably get a good supply of baby grows - maybe enough for 3 per day and take it from there. You can allways get plenty more as they grow. Good luck and how exciting!

I seem to have an obscene amount of vests and babygrows and dont know whether to keep them all for now and pass them on as and when i find I dont need them or whether to be a bit more ruthless and give some away now so that I haven't got so much to store for the next 5 months.
I obviously dont know whether the new baby will be a similar size to DS1 of course to know what will fit when and as the new baby is due in a different season as well soem clothes will just be no good at all.
It's a good job i'm pregnant though as I'm getting soooo broody sorting through these tiny little things and they all smell so lovely still.

Aw, Mckenzie, I know what you mean about baby clothes bringing on broodiness.. my dh is ruthless about passing on clothes ds has grown out of to my nephew... but I miss them and want to hang onto them! Think is part of dh's campaign to keep ds an only child .
Anyway, to answer your question, I don't think you can have too many vests/babygrows for a small baby. Maybe ds was just very possetty but I used every single babygrow we had ? and we'd bought or been given hundreds of the damn things! The washing machine was going all day long but I had so many there were always plenty of dry ones for him. If you can bear to let stuff go, do it as he grows, not before!
Congratulations!
