Safe place to rant about the summer holidays rather than shouting at our child/ren!

Well, it's only day 2 for us and so far it's been ok but I thought maybe we could do with a place to rant about the not so good days!

So far I've borrowed someone else's child/ren on both days (as I only have one ds and he finds me intensely boring after a while, don't blame him) and we have: been to the park, had a picnic, played football, played in my car pretending to drive, been to a vile (but nice for kids) wacky warehouse type place, watched a film, made cakes and been for a long walk. Mmm and this is just Monday and Tuesday I do love the not having to be anywhereness of the holidays but I have a feeling I will have baaaaaad days...

oxocube, I'd pay someone to take them away! Unfortunately I can't stretch to professional day care.

I don't get much chance to use the PC but had to go straight to this thread as I may well need it too! My problem is taking the children out even just for the morning - bribes bribes bribes. Sometimes ok most times I find myself resorting to bribes and I always said I never would you know have them growing up just happy to please you in return for hugs kisses and showers of compliments and while they get these even after the event just to reinforce it more the bribes still have to be bought and it never seems to be the ones I have taken out with me so I am having a steady pile of bribes put away for rainy days! Anyone else face the same problem?!

Hi - can relate utterly!! Just had horrible morning in the Trafford Centre - went to get something for me but, as usual, couldn't concentrate with the constant demands for ice-cream, I just gave up (and gave in!) and got something for her!!

Any news on PamT's car trouble? Did you get it fixed?

Marina, thanks for asking. On the Wednesday we were told that our car wouldn't be ready until Friday tea time so we told them that we would cancel the whole deal and take our old car back. Over night we decided that we really did want the new car so we rang again on Thursday morning and told them to make sure it was ready by Friday and we also got another year's warranty and a free major service. The car did behave for our holiday last week and towed the caravan like a dream, we're keeping our fingers crossed that we won't have any further problems with it.

Unfortunately more than half our holiday was marred by rain, fog, floods, leaking caravan etc not to mention my horrendous PMT and bone idle DH. He had this brilliant idea to get DS1 to do the drying up after meals "to give mum a break" but DH only actually washed up twice - once whilst I was sent to empty the chemical loo (I wanted a caravan with a toilet - I have to empty it!) and the other when I threw a wobbly and ranted at length about me having a crap holiday because it was harder work than at home. I couldn't wait to come again at least I have a dishwasher at home!

PamT, I am just glad to hear that you were not in the campsite that had to be evacuated by lifeboat...we nearly got washed away in Carlisle and lost in fog in Alston, NICE up North last week, wasn't it. Sorry your menfolk let you down, at least your car did the biz!

PamT · 06/08/2002 21:21

Fortunately the campsite is up a hill with lots of drainage but they did close the tent field because it was waterlogged for a couple of days. You wouldn't believe that it was August would you?

Snap, KS! And my son is only 3¼!! Fortunately, playgroup is only shut for 3 weeks and 3 days...

His latest thing is, although I have spent lots of time planning nice outings etc, that he won't set foot out the house! And the "Why??" stage has hit with a vengence. All he wants to do is stay in the bedroom and watch Harry Potter on video.

Tomorrow I've got something special planned for him: I've got a doctor's appointment and he HAS to come with me. Hehehehehe (going slightly feral, good job playgroup starts again next Tuesday!)
