Securing windows whilst on holiday

We are going on holiday in a few weeks in the UK and will be staying in a wooden lodge on a holiday park.

We did this last year and I remember that I was concerned about the robustness of locks on the windows. Anyway, after recent events, I have purchased a window alarm which can be attached easily and if someone tries to open the window from the outside, a high decibel noise is emitted.

I've decided to do this because our 3yo DTS will be sleeping in their own room and I'm just concerned that in the unlikely event of someone trying to break in, DH and I might not hear anything.

I've mentioned this to friends and colleagues, and they think I'm paranoid. I don't believe that I am and I just want to ensure that where my DTS will be sleeping is as secure as possible.

I was just wondering if anybody else had decided to take extra precautions like this or am I being over the top?

speedymama, don't worry about it. IF it makes you sleep easy in your bed at night, then go for it. Ignore your friends and colleagues.

The chances of anyone trying to get into your lodge are highly remote.

However, if it makes you feel more comfortable then you will be able to relax more and enjoy your holiday better. So do what feels right for you, and ignore other people's criticisms.

If you know that without the window lock you will be more tense and worried about your boys being in another room then of course you're not being over the top. There is no point going on holiday if you are going to be worrying yourself to sleep every night. I think it's a really good idea for putting your mind at rest.

Thanks. I am quite a relaxed type of parent but this time I have caved in to my insecurity.

Thanks everyone, I feel better now.
