He's only 2.7? I think you answered your own Q there! Hitting back's a bit mean.

wrinklytum · 30/05/2007 01:12

Oh I thought you said your DH!!!I think ds's are excused, they will experiment with anything at that age, probably didnot mean it nastily!!

wrinklytum · 30/05/2007 01:17

DS is 3.5 if he hits I tell him firmly "Mummy would not hit you" If he repeats it I give him naughty step for 3 mins.I explain why he has to go on it.
We all have bad days.It is hard being a mum sometimes.

Sossy · 30/05/2007 01:18

Eeeeew. That line sucks donkey bottom.

wrinklytum · 30/05/2007 01:19

Which one???

Sossy · 30/05/2007 01:20

It's hard being a mum sometimes.

I suppose this thread's just not for me. I can't bear smacks and naughty steps.

Bye. xx

Have NEVER hit my child. But am really genuinely non aggressively interested Sossy, how to discipline effectively in that case?I only use step in extreme circumstances, which is rarely but it does seem to work. Please share ideas as am genuinely nterested in beterways of disciline.Thanks.

Should read "genuinely interested in better ways of discipline" thanks

wrinklytum · 30/05/2007 01:30

Hmm,Harman,I think we must be crap mums!!Still do believe that we all have bad days though.I am by no means perfect.Surely we all try our best!!Today I have had to deal with someone dying in crappy ways and having to come home and do all the mum stuff on top and cleasn the house etc.Sometimes it is hard.

I cannot imagine what it is like being on your own with 4 kids. All respect to you.I only have 2 under 5 and it is a struggle even with dp who can be a lazy bugger at times!

We all do our best and am sure you are a lovely mum.I really cannot imagine having 4!!!

TyrannosaurusRex · 30/05/2007 01:44

ow, gut reaction. give harman a break. there was blood! poor you, harman, don't stress about it. you're v unlikely to do it again, and so is he...

mumblechum · 30/05/2007 09:22

I don't think you did anything wrong.

Sounds like it was a kneejerk reaction, don't worry about it.

southeastastra · 30/05/2007 09:24

yes agree with mumblechum and trex.

TnOgu · 30/05/2007 10:31

This has reminded me of the time my son [aged 2 at the time] bit my bum.
He'd been watching Noddy and Bumpy dog bit one of the goblins as he tried to steal Noddy's car, so he thought he'd re-inact the scene on my behind.

I was in total shock and my kneejerk reaction was to smack him

The good news is 7 years later the teeth marks have gone and my son has no recollection of the event at all, no trauma at having been smacked, no self-esteem issues, nothing.

Harman, you're a normal mum doing the best you can. Try not to dwell on isolated instances like this and hide all potential stabbing instruments well away.
