hi everyone

just looking around for m&b activities and have thought about our local 1 o'clock club. was just wondering about people's opinions of them - e.g. are they best for babies, toddlers or pre-schoolers? what kind of facilities are there? what is the set-up?

thanks in advance.

Never heard of 1 o'clock clubs as such but usually avoided them because my babes would sleep from 12.30/1pm til 2.30/3pm til the age of 18/24months. Went to the odd one when ds1 was older, "run-about" type things, and either ds2 would join in a bit, or sleeep in his pushchair in the corner. Fortunately I found more than enough to do with them during the morning, which I always found to be the best time as far as getting the most out of it, and a few afternoon things where I am so didnt feel feel like they missed out.

I would go much more often except ds still sleeps from 1pm until 3pm or even later, so no good for me. It's basically a playscheme with helpers but you oversee. Outdoor toys, some indoor activities, a cup of tea for you and a drink for them, and a chance for them to run around with other children. Good really for 2 and up, I think. They all differ of course. IMO best to go with someone local who has a child of similar age so you have someone to talk to.

Hello serenequeen,

Firstly, I don't think I've congratulated you on your new little one! Congratulations!

Our local "one o'clock club" actually has two session --- one in the morning (run by a local charity) for younger babies and toddlers, and then an afternoon session for the older toddlers and children. There is an indoor area with toys, paints, etc., and then a grassy area and a soft play area with a climbing structure, lots of trikes and things to push about.

i know one and two o'clock clubs. some can be a bit cliquey, but definitely worth a visit as they're either free or charge a small fee (£1) and there's usually in and outdoor activities

Hi SQ: the Brockwell Park one is lovely now it has been done up - but the activities are much more suited to 18m plus, IMO. The playleader is great, she does a story and songs, and helps with painting and craft. there is also a good outdoor bike track, indoor climbing equipment, sand and loads of themed toys. Mixed 'clientele', you have to work a little bit to chat to people. It's free, and open every afternoon except wed (or thu), can't remember.

thanks everyone, these comments are very useful

hi, blu, yes it was the brockwell park one i was thinking of mainly with occasional visits to clapham common.

based on what everyone has said, i will check it out with the new baby, but expecting it to be better as an after pre-school jaunt for 3yr old ds instead.

thanks again

twiglett, thanks for those suggestions (didn't mean to ignore you!) they are a little too easterly for me, but thanks anyway.
