I received this from a friend on active duty.

Please take one or two minutes to fill out the Downing Street Petition on behalf of our injured soldiers, bearing in mind we all know what the damage of war can do.

Our comrades are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with horrific injuries to a health care situation that is a joke.

With our troops being deployed in greater numbers we must go back to the dedicated care that they fully deserve - so please lend your support to the petition to the Prime Minister on the Downing Street Petition Web Site. The petition is:

'We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to bring back dedicated Military Hospitals to provide adequate facilities (non NHS) for members of the Armed Forces who are injured or disabled in the course of their duties.'

Thank you very much.

I've signed too, Wabbit. It makes my blood boil.

Well done for bringing this up.

wabbit · 25/05/2007 15:48

I know there's a few military family members post on here, so I thought might generate some interest. Please pass it on.

No no no! OMG I can't beleive this is going round. Dh is a Dr in the armed forces and I used to be a military nurse and we certainly will not be signing this petition. I do not beeive this is the way to go. We need to provide the current MDHU's with more resources and funding not open military hospitals - but that's just my opinion.

Twiglett · 25/05/2007 15:52

I'm with McDreamy I'm afraid

I can't believe that military hospitals is the way to go

McDreamy · 25/05/2007 16:28

Sorry I didn't mean to pounce on this quite like I did , knee jerk reaction. I apologise, obviously some people including soldiers out there feel this is the way to go but as someone who has served in the medical branch of the Armed forces and the NHS I really don't believe this is the best way to offer the best care for the men and women of our Armed Forces.

as someone who works in the NHS, I would say fine, as long as it comes out of the Military budget, and doesn't take money away from the NHS!

McDreamy · 25/05/2007 18:25

The NHS get the military doctors and nurses for free! And they get extra money when personnel are called away on deployment courses etc

rollonsummerholidays · 25/05/2007 18:48

why not automatically pay for them to become members of bupa!! most companies offer medical insurance why not the forces.

Dogsby · 25/05/2007 18:49

why do we need speicfic military hospitals?

rollonsummerholidays · 25/05/2007 18:54

because Dogsby injured members of the armed forces who are serving their country have to join the end of the queue at the nhs . they perhaps need counselling God know what they need. IT is appalling they are away from their family and friend and most likely don't want to be seperated from their loved ones. then God forbide they are injured and come home to no specialist care from the government that sent them their for their cause in the first place.

McDreamy · 25/05/2007 18:57

There's no money to become members of BUPA, it would cost a fortune but it's a nice idea.

Also the military have there own medical personnel so in a way it would be a waste of money to pay for more medical services.

There's nothing wrong with the NHS hospitals that a bit more resources couldn't sort out.

Dogsby · 25/05/2007 18:57

risk you take when the average squaddie get paid well oevr the odds and gets subsidied hosuing?

rollonsummerholidays · 25/05/2007 19:02

rollonsummerholidays · 25/05/2007 19:03

infact dogsby take a long walk on a short pier anyone you like!! and tried so hard not to bit

Dogsby · 25/05/2007 19:04

well they do fgs
undeducated squaddies are oevr paid becasue of htis.

pointydog · 25/05/2007 19:04

but why is it appalling they are away from their family?

Dogsby · 25/05/2007 19:05

they are probalbly pleased.

McDreamy · 25/05/2007 19:08

The "average" squaddie is not on a great wage. Not that wages have anything to do with this discussion.

Dogsby · 25/05/2007 19:09

COURSE THEY DO
ADN YES HTEY ARE

I KNOW.

rollonsummerholidays · 25/05/2007 19:14

ofcourse they have to be away from their families pointydog but what is appalling is if they are injured they have no military hospital to come home to /or specialist care!!

no empathy from you then dogsby well you're entitled to your ignorant view.

have a nice evening and bank holiday with your loved ones

McDreamy · 25/05/2007 19:14
