I would imagine nil by mouth from about now.

kid · 24/05/2007 21:56

afaik they don't put you asleep for it so I didn't realise you weren't allowed to eat/drink after a certain time.
DH had one wisdom tooth removed a few years ago and ate as normal.

Smurfgirl · 24/05/2007 21:56

Its midnight usually for a morning surgery.

Beauregard · 24/05/2007 21:56

pedilia · 24/05/2007 21:58

Good luck pedilia
Have some chewing gum if your mouth gets too dry.

kid · 24/05/2007 21:59

If you are having a general, you shouldn't eat anymore tonight, I think you are still allowed water till a bit later. I'm sure there will be something on the internet about it. I'll have a quick look now.

Its probably much better to be put out to have them removed. I was put to sleep for 4 teeth to be removed but that was a long time ago.

Smurfgirl · 24/05/2007 22:00

pedilia - you can certainly drink until midnight

i had 4 wisdom teeth out under a G.A recently, good luck!!

Smurfgirl · 24/05/2007 22:01

IME of a surgical ward patients who had a morning surgery ate until midnight the night before BTW but i might be wrong so its best to be cautious I imagine, I had my surgery at 3.30pm and did not eat after 9am

lily333 · 24/05/2007 22:02

Had wisdom teeth out a couple of years ago, had the top two out at the hospital (impacted). Had the op supposedly at 9am and couldn't eat from midnight as general anesthetic - op wasn't until 12am and was ravenous, lol. Had lower one out under the dentist - under local - no probs with eating -was still not pleasant but upper ones far worse. Still, was given lots of painkillers and it was only because they were impacted that it was very painful!

pedilia · 24/05/2007 22:02

Have you arranged for someone to collect you after the operation? I remember they wouldn't let me travel home alone on the bus hardly surprising but they didn't tell me that before the op.

Smurfgirl · 24/05/2007 22:06

I would eat it.

You can still eat chocolate after they come out actually - i ate galaxy caramels, mash and soup for 10 days

pedilia · 24/05/2007 22:08

kid- my husband will be taking me and picking me up

I had a top wisdom tooth out yesterday! Really wish I'd had a G.A. As the crunching noise was unbearable and I think I've got PTSD... Only went in because my filling was hurting and he said it needed to come out there and then! Not too painful this morning but I still feel VERY virtuous going into work today!

pedilia · 25/05/2007 08:51

And so you should Dotty

My dentist tried to take one of mine out while I was still pregnant, it was awful I was in the chair for two hours and I ended up in tears because I felt so bad, my tooth just shattered abd I have had recurring infections ever since.

I am in agony this morning as the infection is really making je feel rough
