Just interested reading a post from poppins about her being a childcare expert. I have read her books and tend to do a bit of mix and match with my ds but it set set me to wondering does she actually have any qualifications?

This could get nasty.

But in answer to your question, I think her qualification is looking after 300 babies (not all at once though!)

clairabelle · 12/08/2004 14:31

I originally thought she was a midwife but couldn't find any information anywhere.

OP posts:
Northerner · 12/08/2004 14:41

I think she has been a meternity nurse for about 20 years. Working for the rich and famous I beleive.

Was never a midwife.

oliveoil · 12/08/2004 14:50

Do you need qualifications to give advice? Never stopped any of us lot .

clairabelle · 12/08/2004 14:51

I was being facitious (spelling? dur). Am very bored at home.

I think Northener was correct in that she was a maternity nurse for years so I suppose she has had experience of loads of babies and has 'practiced' her routines and finetuned them iyswim.

Titania · 12/08/2004 14:58

Gina Ford

Gina Ford has over twenty years' experience of looking after babies and young children. She has worked as a maternity nurse all over the world for all kinds of people, from lawyers and bankers to newspaper editors, pop stars and other high-profile media personalities. She now runs a consultancy service for parents.

found it on a website....doesnt say anything about specific qualifications...i think looking after loads of kids should be a qualification in its own right!!

Northerner · 12/08/2004 15:01

Hi OliveOil!

Hos you and the bump? When you due?

Piffleoffagus · 12/08/2004 15:02

I don't care if she is the nanny of the year, beatified and given and acknowledged as such by a divine installation...
I read that book and ignored the content as I was so pissed off that she spoke to me like I was 3...
Silly cow...

clairabelle · 12/08/2004 15:03

Northener - Am VERY fed up and grumpy, due next Wednesday but will no doubt go over . MIL took pity on me this afternoon and has taken dd away to the park, I nearly collapse when I walk there ffs. Have no patience and keep being short and stroppy with dd and then crying cos I feel mean . Hormonal bag of poo at the mo.

Moan moan moan.

Bet you are glad you asked now eh???

clairabelle · 12/08/2004 15:05

It's obviously all the years of experience Piffleoffagus, rendered her incapable of relating to adults. Dd had a pre school teacher last year.

I believe her original training was in hotel management. Seems she applies those techniques to children.

The problem I have with her advocating certain routines, etc., as they worked for her, is that she wasn't the mother of the child in question and therefore wasn't emotionally involved with it. Adds a whole new perspective to things. I'm sure I'd be brilliant at applying her techniques to other people's children, but couldn't possibly do it to mine.

Jaxmum · 12/08/2004 17:13

Shes not a mother herself (I think) and have heard she's an insomniac.......

Chandra · 12/08/2004 17:33

Well considered the advice I get from my qualified health visitor I'm glad I have GF experience to rely on...

hercules · 12/08/2004 17:38

I dont think it matters really as Chandra says the so called professionals know less in my experience. Not a gfer myself though but can see how it must be useful to some.

zebra · 12/08/2004 18:45

LOL, Freckles.
I believe that she attributes her insomnia 2 (surprise, surprise) lack of routine in childhood, Jaxmum.
Doesn't explain how our lack of routine household produced heavy sleepers in our kids, of course.

jane313 · 12/08/2004 19:29

someone told me once and I have no idea if its true that her mother had severe post natal depression and she slept in her bed with her till she was 8. Not that has got anything to do with qualifications.

Davros · 12/08/2004 20:32

Sorry, but 20 years as a maternity nurse??!! What sort of parents has she generally come across then? Personally I think its money for old rope and I COMPLETELY DISAGREE with getting babies up before they wake up....
