Dear All,
You may have seen the BBC Programme "Power to the People" this evening which
highlighted the treatment of ex-service personnel returning from active
service with physical and/or mental injuries.
Every year many of us wear a poppy to remember the dead and there is not a
village in this country that does not have a war memorial.
Yet nowhere does there appear to be a memorial to those who have returned -
and will return - less than whole.
The sculpture of ³The Abandoned Soldier² honours those who served their
country and was (albeit temporarily) erected in Trafalgar Square on 20th
January 2007 to rally support for soldiers and veterans who have been
forgotten, or have received little support despite serving their country.
A Campaign is being implemented to cast a bronze version, and to find it a
meaningful home - namely the "vacant" plinth in Trafalgar Square.
A petition as been lodged on the Downing Street web site to this effect -
please consider adding your name to those already there:

At the risk of "spamming" people, please also consider forwarding this
to anyone else you feel may wish to express their support for those who have
given so much for this country - and are now living with the consequences
of fulfilling their duty.
(This has nothing to do with whether you support any, all, or none of the
actions to which our servicemen have been assigned it is simply that I
believe we have a duty to ensure that their physical and mental sacrifices
are remembered and recognized, and that our ex-servicemen are properly and
sympathetically looked after when they need our help).
Thanks
Rob
P.s. You must be a British citizen to sign the petition (see website)
