well, she is not really a friend, more an acquatence (sp?) as she lives down the road from me.

I don't "know" her, only talked to her as neighbours do really.
However, I really don't like the amount that she swears, as it's constant (and infront of my dc, and her own).

I've asked her politly not to swear when around my dc (btw, it is not just "common" swear words, but quite obusive, but she still does. I swear, just not around my dc all the time.

How can I ask her to stop swearing? What you be mates with someone like this?

I wouldn't be mates with her Jo, I tell my family not to swear in front of DD and have often left a rom if they carried on.

I'd mention it one more time then avoid her. If she asks why tell her.

Potty mouth

I'd tell her straight if she doesn't stop you won't be mates with her anymore. Tell a white lie, and say one of your dc has started saying one of her lovely words and you're annoyed about it? It won't be a lie if you let her carry on!

quadrophenia · 21/05/2007 19:47

hmm if it bothered me that much i would just avoid her. If she was a good friend, then it would be slightly easier, at least then you could be honest, i think its much harder with someone you don't know very well.

Erm, is it possible that she has Tourettes or something similar? Or at least some sort of low-inhibitions-type thing? she may not even be aware how much of a pottymouth she is (I am one and mostly rein it in when around straights/their kids/DS, but now and again the odd word slips out). If she has good qualities that make you want to be friends, use her as a teaching aid to explain to your DCs why some words are not used in polite company; if she's not someone you much like anyway, just avoid her.

jofeb04 · 21/05/2007 20:14

She hasn't got Tourettes!

Problem is that I don't knock on her door, she always knocks on mine (window first so Iknow she's coming), if I pass her house when walking with my dc, she comes out of the house!!

I'm just going to have to tell her where to go

I'll come and meet you for a coffee Jo, invite her.

Then I'll tell her.
