just had a pal of dd (age5) round to play (after they had all been at a soft play area- so theoretically tired) anyhow, I thought they would just 'chill' in front of video for a bit ... but no... this pal just kept asking me... what we going to do now? every 5 seconds! we baked bread and played a game, they made cards, but still not enough- I was getting quite hacked off.. seemed to think I was a childrens entertainer or something....
So I just wondered - what do you do?

send them to dd's room to play so I can go on MN

lou33 · 10/08/2004 16:53

Tell them to shoot some zombies on the x box?

Fio2 · 10/08/2004 16:54

make them play in the garden

lou33 · 10/08/2004 16:56

Pretending to be zombies Fio?

unicorn · 10/08/2004 16:57

yes (what lou33!!) but I swear this little playmate seems to prefer adult company...
he just buzzed around me all the time, (really getting on my T*ts!!.... oh how I love kids!!!!!)

And problem is his mum always has a programme of activities lined up- so I spose he expects the same. (not from me mate !!!)

i pretend I have hidden chocolate out there.................

Frieda · 10/08/2004 17:08

I don't suppose his mum happens to be a Blue Peter presenter does she?

I'd tell him it's his turn to come up with an idea for a game. Preferably one that doesn't involve you.

Alternatively, you could suggest a game of hide and seek. And then just not bother to search too hard when it's his turn to hide...

hana · 10/08/2004 17:11

after all that activity they needed to chill! What about next time making some popcorn or other snack with them and pretend they're at the cinema? I think you did loads with them!

unicorn · 10/08/2004 17:11

frieda
think that his mum just feels that that is what a good mum should do... so i must be a very bad mummy indeed!!!

whilst I am griping, this child is also a bit of a know it all, correcting me etc all the time!
Don't know why we have cultured this friendship!!!

ds1 is 5 and has has several school friends round on play-dates - I always leave them to it - unless we go to the local playground - I couldn't be doing with having to entertain them - that's why they've got each other

hana · 10/08/2004 17:58

the little kid said that? Oh my goodness! I think that was your cue to tell him to go home!

Chandra · 10/08/2004 18:00

Oh dear, what a nightmare! and I thought they would play to each other, has he confused the playdate with a birthday party???

Angeliz · 10/08/2004 18:24

unicorn, this thread has made me giggle

Guess HE won't be coming back!?

Can't BELEIVE he said that!!!!

unicorn · 10/08/2004 18:41

angeliz !!! unfortunately I do get on quite well with little smartarse's mum and dad... and felt duty bound to return a previous playdate favour.

I think (dare I say this... sharp intake of breath all round)it's a case of his mum working full time (dad stay at home) and mum feeling superguilty... so organises every spare second with 'fun filled' activities! (that Alison Pearson book springs to mind)...unfortunately he now has the impression that every mummy is a supermummy... (well he's met 1 who most def isn't now!!!!)

Nice one Unicorn - my sentiments exactly.

Do you do that bit at the end - when their Mum comes to collect said little visitor and asks if they were good - 'Oh, yes! So good..I hardly knew he/she was here at all!'( lie, lie etc)
Sickly grin when she says, 'We MUST do this again.'
'Bye, bye'..slam door, seek out nearest bottle of wine at high speed. Try not to let your dd/ds hear you discussing little visitor in less than complimentary terms with dh.

unicorn · 10/08/2004 19:38

Whoops tinyghq- crapmummy has done it again.. soon as dh enters from work I just have to offload...!!
(must must must remember that is what Mumsnet is for!!!)
so dd now has a very different image of her playbuddy!
(well I also told her that when she goes to other friends houses she has to abide by THEIR house rules - not have a debate with the adults!)
cocky little....!!!!!!!

I was joking unicorn. My boys are fascinated by zombies, that's all. Currently they are playing together calling each other knucklehead and loving it. Boys eh?

unicorn · 10/08/2004 20:36

well i just wish this little boy was a little boy- he seems a bit hothoused, and into "adult" company etc...
tbqh I don't think his mum and dad get on with many other parents in his class- so not much other schoolage company.
He is rather "intellectual" (ffs!) he is 5... going on 50!!!!
