BLOODY NEIGHBOURS ALARM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angeliz · 10/08/2004 13:34

It has been going off now for 24 hours!!!!
I had to plug my ears last night as it was SSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying and we have double glazing!!
Trouble is, i can't figure out where it's from!
DP rang council and police last night to see who would help. Nobody apparently!
I've had a walk round and can't see where the alarm is and if it is neighbours, they MUST be away or very ignorant!!

Any ideas before i just go and scream!!?????

Oh you poor thing, They are supposed to go off, then re-set theselves after so many minutes ringing. Not alot you can do, if you can't find which house it is.

I was also going to empathise as our neighbours car alarm goes off every few hours, the last two nights, right outside our house. She's there, so why can't she just lock the door to her car instead of having to put the alarm on? It wakes the whole street up.

Thanks Furball. They are so annoying aren't they??!!!!!

I really feel so sorry for you. There was a car alarm going off outside our house for about 5 hours last week and it drove me mad. Are you sure the council won't do anything? I rang ours and they were prepared to go to the magistrates and get an order to break into the car and turn the alarm off. It might be worth calling again.

Hope it stops soon.

Chandra · 10/08/2004 13:54

Are you my neighbour Angeliz? An alarm go off last night and lasted for hours, can't find which house was coming from. It was so loud that kept us up for a long time.

Angeliz · 10/08/2004 13:55

Chandra it's STILL going off!! Surely it's noise polution!

We also have some car alarms very often, it always make me remeber of that scene in When a man loves a woman " movie, with Meg Ryan trashing a car whose alarm went off everynight with no body paying attention to it...

Chandra · 10/08/2004 14:00

No you are not my neighbour then, as our has stoped.

Have you found the house? We had some neighbours whose alarm went off one Christmas while they were in holidays, it lasted 3 dfays, at the end somebody managed to contact a relative who rang them and got the key sent to them. It was horrible. I will try the police again. Or if theres a name in their alarm box try to ring the comapny instead (sometimes the signal goes to the company) but I'm not sure they could do something about it

Blu · 10/08/2004 14:05

How truly horrible. They are not supposed to ring for more than 20 mins.

Twinkie · 10/08/2004 14:06

Get someone wlse to ring 999 and tell them that you thought you saw someone in there - maybe they will go and smash the door down - will teach the buggers not to let the bloody alarm go off for so long and at least get it stopped!!

Angeliz · 10/08/2004 14:08

That's a good idea Chandra but IF it is actually the neighbours and they are away, you can't get in. It has a gated driveway and cameras and they are X directory AND we are not on best of terms as he parks his HUGE delivery truck in my space!!

GOD what a whinger i sound

OP posts:
jampot · 10/08/2004 14:08

I'm fairly sure that alarms are not supposed to sound for more than 20 minutes and not exceed a certain decibel limit. Before we moved into our house our alarm went off quite a bit (since found out our neighbour still had a key from the previous owners and went in for a nose). The alarm was within the decibel limit and did reset after 20 mins but that didn't stop the neighbours complaining to the Council. We had quite a curt letter from them as neighbours had exaggerated the length of time it was sounding for.

hercules · 10/08/2004 14:12

Our neighbour always leaves the number of his brother with is when they go away so we can call him if theirs goes off which it usually does.

How bloody annoyuing!

Mirage · 10/08/2004 21:17

I used to work for an alarm company & by law, they must be fitted so they stop ringing after 20 minutes. They can then reset themselves up to 3 times,so if whatever set the alarm off is still there, they can go off again.

Anyone who has an alarm professionally fitted should give details to the local police statyion of a keyholder who can be contacted at any time to gain access in case of a problem.

The only problem is,with DIY systems, these rules aren't kept to.If there is a telephone no on the bell box of the alarm,it is worth ringing the company,as they will have contact details of the owner. If the alarm is a complete nuisance, the environmental health people can gain access by any means,ie break down the door,& the householder is liable for any costs incurred.

We had a problem with an office alarm going off nearby us,at weekends & early mornings.I rang the company & explained & they said that they hadn't realised it had activated, but thanked me very nicely for telling them.

It is infuriating & I hope the people concerned get it checked out soon.

Angeliz · 10/08/2004 21:18

Mirage it stopped at around 5pm today but thanks for that.
Will be quoting that to someone if it happens again!!!

You have my sympathy, we often get them round here, and last summer the house behind ours, which was empty went off and kept on ringing for a couple of days. my dp and next door neighbour were going to smash it off the wall if nothing got done. So unfair for everyone around.
