I need some euros, last year we used Thomas Cook but they ripped us off. Any tips?

Can you not just get them out of a whole-in-wall wherever you're going - that's the cheapest way. Alternatively, the Post Office does good rates.

HSBC are doing a good rate at the moment and you can order online to pick up in a branch. Their rate is better than the post office and they will buy back without charging commission.

Have a look here at my post timed 19.58.
Have to agree HSBC are doing a great on line deal.

I will use a cashpoint once i get to my destination but need some cash as the cashpoint network often fails abroad.

M&S let you buy them on an M&S card and it doesn't count as a cash advance....if that's any help.

The Post Office don't charge commission.

I usually get 100 - 200 Euros from the Post Office. Not sure if the exchange rate is brilliant, but not paying commission is good, especially for small amounts.

I have to disagree that the hole in the wall is the cheapest way. Often it can be the most expensive depending who you bank with. Your UK bank might charge as well as the Bank abroad for using its cash point.
Most people are offering commission free now so the rate is generally the best bit to check. The Post office are very competitive but there are better deals.

Nationwide is a good bank card to use if you want to use a cash machine abroad.

Here is the link I found to make things easier

daisy1999 · 17/05/2007 19:26

m&s usually have a good rate.

Skyler · 17/05/2007 19:27

Yes, nationwide has no fees for getting cash anywhere in the world
