I feel like I haven't slept in a week (that's a yawn)
I think I'm getting enough sleep but I'm waking up feeling like I've never been to bed!
We have a good mattress, I don't eat a lot of crap or caffeine, and I don't think anything is waking me up during the night.
Apologies in advance to those of you (new mums esp!!) who actually don't get much sleep - you'll probably think I'm being pathetic.
I'm just so sick of being so tired, my brain is completely mashed.
Does anyone have any tips for getting a good night's sleep? I'll try anything (another yawn)

Hi there YL

I would try to eliminate all caffiene (coffee, tea, chocolate) from your diet. That worked for my chronic insomnia

And I would speak to youe GP, they could suggest some sensible strategies

Here's to a good night's kip for you

Lolly68 · 17/05/2007 10:14

Exercise is good - helps you sleep even if it just a brisk walk down the shops and back.

emwad · 17/05/2007 10:15

Do you have itchy eyes and runny nose?? My hayfever makes me feel as though I've not had enough sleep.

Y0rkshirelass · 17/05/2007 10:25

Thanks for your replies.

Grouchyoscar no chocolate !! I don't know if it is insomnia because I can get to sleep, I just don't seem to be getting quality sleep.

Lolly I do exercise 2 or 3 times a week but it doesn't seem to be helping.

Emwad, no I don't get hayfever.

I did even think I could maybe fix it by something as silly as buying new pillows, worth a try maybe.

Is lack of relaxation a factor do you think?
Sorry if that sounds really self-indulgent but for example I tend to shower instead of bath because it's quicker, and seem to be doing everything on the run these days.
(and it would be a great excuse to go for a massage )

Clean your bedroom really well, hoover under the bed, wash curtains etc. Take everything out that doesn't asbsolutely need to be there and put everything else in cupboards. Get rid of any tv/stereo etc. That's what helps me the most.

Also exercise is very good as lolly68 said. You don't have to go to the gym, but get out in the fresh air for a walk every day as a bare minimum.

Lavender oil on a piece of tissue, placed under your pillow, helps. You can also buy Badger Sleep Balm from Boots - essential oils, and you put a bit on your temples. I like it a lot.

And yes, as the proud owener of a wakeful 8m DS, I could cheerfully strange you

Y0rkshirelass · 17/05/2007 10:56

Thanks N.U.T, some good tips there. Thinking about it I will have a good de-clutter of the bedroom tonight. I'm not really one for oils and potions but I'm so desperate for some sleep I might give it a go!
I'm guessing you want to strangle me, not strange me, yeah I know, sorry told you it was pathetic.
Funny thing is, I wouldn't mind so much if there was an actual reason for my knackeredness.

Oops You can blame DS typing along with me for that!

I'm not one for potions either but these really do work for me and they're not expensive. Hope it works for you, now get cleaning

BigmummaL · 17/05/2007 13:24

Having sex can help get a good nights slepp.

Y0rkshirelass · 17/05/2007 14:01

So my plan of action is -
Less caffeine
Tidier bedroom
More nookie

Sounds do-able!

i know exactly what you mean.....i've been feeling like this too.

things that helped me were....drinking plenty of water, never underestimate how tired being dehydrated can make you feel. Also i'd been having my mobile phone on my bedside table, and as soon as i started leaving it in the living room again the quality of my sleep improved......might be coincidence, but it works so that's fine by me.

Birdly · 17/05/2007 16:44

See your GP - he/she might recommend a blood test to check for anaemia.

Sleep - it's the holy grail for us, isn't it?!
