and pop into town with DS2 even though I know he's got chickenpox - I was loathe to take him to the local corner shop the other - before I even knew for sure he was going to get them (DS1 had then last week) but unfortunately needs must and all that and I'm about to take an infectious child to the bank !

Thankfully he's not got too many on his face (yet) so perhaps people won't notice....................?

phew no immidiate backlash of what an irresponsible parent I am so I think I'll be off before

a) town gets too busy
b) It starts raining (again)

IIRC I think you have to come into direct contact with the spots to get it, so I think you'll be OK (and more importantly so will everyone else). Just keep him wrapped up and don't let anyone touch him!

I don't think you're irresponsible as long as you don't lets lots of elderly/pregnant/otherwise immunocompromised people kiss and cuddle him.

There, we'll both get flamed now!

fannyannie · 17/05/2007 09:33

LOL - don't worry he'll be well wrapped up - need to hide all those spots on his back and stomach .

As for letting anyone touch him - they'll have to catch him first

Does he have a cough with it?

Are you likely to be in any enclosed spaces with people for any significant amount of time?

CP does NOT need direct contact for transmission, it can be droplet or airborne. Unless DS2 is going to be coughing in close proximity to people though or you are leaving unscabbed spots uncovered, I wouldn't worry about it.

fannyannie · 17/05/2007 09:37

well we have to go to the bank to make deposit for a bank transfer to 2 of DH's relatives in Zimbabwe, and then go to Colemans to send a fax to confirm the deposit.......

I've not heard him coughing at all (and neither did DS1 before he got them) - but he does have unscabbed spots (only started getting them on Monday evening.......

Is it measles or CP that is dangerous around pregnant women?

SaintGeorge · 17/05/2007 09:39

Oh go for it QoQ (sorry, you always will be QoQ to me ).

If he starts coughing, help him cover his mouth and nose with a tissue. Cover his spots and get out for some fresh air. Will do you both the world of good.

fannyannie · 17/05/2007 09:40

it's definitely CP - and I know it's dangerous around pg women..........and I'm one but I really do have to make this deposit as DH can't get to the bank today and his relatives need the money before the weekend

Measles & German Measles 1st trimester.
CP 1st trimester (not as dangerous as others though) and at birth.

fannyannie · 17/05/2007 09:42

thanks for the reminder about the birth big there StG (and yes I'll let you keep calling my QoQ although you may confuse everyone else.......mind you I was Gwenick before QoQ LOL) - I'm crossing my legs for another week to make sure DC3 doesn't arrive at the same point in my pg as DS1 did LOL.

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 17/05/2007 09:48

QoQ always suited you better though (and yes I know Gwenick is closer to the RL you )

I have no immunity to CP and nursed DS1 through it. Actually did my pregnancy test for DS2 whilst at home bored with spotty child (and developing a few spots of my own).

Right when those little cells were dividing and multiplying and were at so much risk, I was massively exposed. No harm done.

It is far more dangerous at your end of the pregnancy but the risks are well known and pretty easily dealt with.

Now bugger off to the bank

fannyannie · 17/05/2007 09:50

anyhow I'd better waddle off to town or I'll never get there - had to get up at 6.30am (we don't get up until 8am in our house usually) to play for the Ascension day service at church.........I don't do that time in the morning - infact it's not morning it's still nighttime as far as I'm concerned , don't mind the rare occasions I have to get up early with the DS's (if they're not well etc) as I can lounge on the sofa in my dressing gown once I've stuck breakfast in front of them - but having to be up and out of the house before 7.30 was a killer this morning LOL.

Snort.

You wuss.

fannyannie · 17/05/2007 10:03

I'm not a wuss - DH has taken the umbrella with him (fair enough when he's not sat in the car driving he's out of the car in the open) and none of my jackets have hoods..........and it takes DS2 about 20 minutes to walk to town (15 on a good day LOL)

OP posts:
fannyannie · 17/05/2007 12:07

well I'm back - and drenched but the deposit and relevant photocopies/faxes etc to accompany it have been done. Also popped into Morrison and got something for dinner tonight (Pizza and Garlic Bread ), shall do a proper shop tomorrow.

Of course I saw about a dozen people who already knew that DS2 has chickenpox though but thankfully DS2 was 'playing shy' and hid behind my legs most of the time so hopefully he hasn't infected anyone,
