With recent events wanted to share this,

Just for today.

Just for today, i am going to smile when i see your face, and laugh when i feel like crying.
Just for this morning, i will let you choose what you want to wear, and smile and say how perfect it is.
Just for this morning, im going to step over the laundry, pick you up, and take you to the park to play.
Just for this morning, i will leave the dishes in the sink, and let you show me how to put that puzzle of yours together.
Just for this afternoon, i will unplug the phone, keep the computer off, and sit with you in the garden blowing bubbles.
Just for this afternoon, i will not yell once, not even when you scream and whine for the ice cream van, and i will buy you one if he comes by.
Just for this afternoon, i wont worry about what you will be when you grow up, or second guess every decision i have made were you are concerned.
Just for this afternoon, i will let you help me make cookies, and i wont stand over you trying to fix them.
Just for this afternoon, i will take us to Macdonalds, and buy us both a happy meal so you can have both toys.
Just for this evening, i will hold you in my arms and tell you a story about how you were born and how much i love you.
Just for this evening, i will let you splash in the bath and not get angry.
Just for this evening, i will let you stay up late while we sit outside and count the stars.
Just for this evening, i will snuggle beside you for hours and miss my favourite tv shows.
Just for this evening, when i brush your hair, i will simply be grateful that i have been given the greatest gift ever given...
I will think about the mothers and fathers who are searching for their missing children, the mothers and fathers who are visiting their
childrens graves instead of their bedrooms, and mothers and fathers who are in hospital rooms watching their children suffering, while
screaming inside that they can't handle any more.
And when i kiss you goodnight, i will hold you a little tighter, a little longer, it is then that i will thank god for you, and ask him for nothing,
except one more day......

It's a lovely sentiment, izzybiz.
Rather too sickly sweet for my taste, but I'm a cynical old beast!
And I can't help thinking that it originated on the side of a Big Mac carton!

Saturn74 · 13/05/2007 13:10

ooh Malory - the tact wave must have washed round my ankles too!

Moomin · 13/05/2007 13:14

pmsl Kathy esp the supernanny reference!

yes, don't like these sort of things (but not going to slag off ayone who does - each to their own) and maybe would be more beneficial to remind parents to hold onto their dcs' hands more tightly when crossing the road as road accidents are far far far more likely to be the cause of our children being hurt or killed than anything else - or indeed heart disease as adults from a childhood spent having treats in McD!

donnie · 13/05/2007 13:17

boak city!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 13/05/2007 13:17

Just for today, I will look both ways when crossing the road.

Just for today, I will make strap my child into his car seat or make him wear a seatbelt.

That do, Moomin?

By the way, Izzybiz, I know I am taking the piss but it is very sweet as well

Moomin · 13/05/2007 13:21

yes thank you much more asseptable

ruty · 13/05/2007 18:27

Izzybiz I thought it was beautiful.
Don't mind mumsnet, bitching is a favourite past time.

izzybiz · 13/05/2007 19:55

Well obviously it is only a poem.
Its also pretty obvious its not how you live all the time!

Some of you are always so bloody serious about things, cant you just read something and accept it for what it is, a poem with a nice thought behind it, its not a parenting guide that you all must abide by FFS!

OP posts:
portonovo · 13/05/2007 19:57

I didn't take it seriously.

I just didn't think it was beautiful or a nice thought. I thought it was trite and nauseating.

portonovo · 13/05/2007 19:57

But if you like it, great.

thirtysomething · 13/05/2007 20:02

for goodness sake girls, can we not just have one post where you don't slag each other off? I'm all for freedom of speech and respecting people's different opinions but why doe so many posts have to include the ubiquitous slagging off the OP's sentiments? Even if we wouldn't necessarily count the same things as treats in our own houses, surely we all share the same sentiment as the OP?

anniebear · 13/05/2007 20:05

totally agree

I don't post as half as I used to, too scared of getting shouted at lol

PinkChick · 13/05/2007 20:14

the poem is lovely and heartfelt

ruty · 13/05/2007 20:14

how on earth is saying you find the poem a bit sentimental slagging anyone off?

zizou · 13/05/2007 20:20

fraid I'm with the vom crowd on this one.
