Bluebottle flies ---- how to get rid of them

Does anyone have any tips for how to get rid of bluebottle flies?

In the humid weather they keep coming in the house and they really annoy me.

We have flypaper thing hanging up but they are not attracted to that.

We have swotter thing but that is only effective when you are around. The same with sprays.

I want something that will attract them then kill them.

TIA

A friend mentioned a plant she bought. Called Saracena (not sure of spelling). Bit like a Venus Fly Trap in that it attracts the flies, who fly into a sort of tube and then can't get out again. I've sent dh out on a mission to get one as our house is full of the bl**dy things.

I've also heard that basil plants repel flies. Doesn't seem to work for me though!

Thing in Observer yesterday about why they come in and they are attracted to smell of food and decaying matter that you don't even realise is there (microscopic particles on work surface!!) - the Health Officer lady said wipe everywhere down with boiling soapy water in the kitchen to get rid of the stuff they want to land on and make sure the bin is emptied regularly and all food stuff in larder or fridge!!
