Lost camera at Bluewater yesterday...

Really peed off. Think it either fell out of my changing bag or it has been stolen. It wasn't very expensive but it had hundreds of pics on it of my baby. Luckily most of them I had uploaded to my laptop. There are some really intimate pics of me breastfeeding on it and some other lovely family moments that I don't want anyone else to see so I am quite upset.

Spoke with Bluewater who have confirmed that no one has handed it in to lost property.

DP had the bright idea of looking on Ebay to see if it is being sold on there and I really think it is. Our camera model is there being sold with the protective film over the screen (which it still had on it) and with a memory card the same size that was in ours but no software, USB or box is being sold with it. The chap selling it lives within a short driving distance of Bluewater and claims it is a birthday present and it has only been used once but if he had no intention of using it and wanted to sell it, why has he chucked the box and everything away??

What can I do?

I have emailed him being very blase asking whether he is selling the camera with the software etc to see if he gives any reason why he is selling it without it.

Reading back it seems like I might be quite paranoid about this chap but would you lot think the same thing?

I would deffo think the same thing, but I don't know what you can do.... could you contact ebay? or the police?

I don't know how you would prove it was yours, though - he's likely to have deleted the pictures off the camera.

for you - it's horrible when this happens - I had my handbag nicked with all the photos of my engagement in it. (don't feel sorry for me, we got divorced, but i know it felt at the time and how you must be feeling)

Ilovemyboy · 09/05/2007 22:22

I will email Ebay. Don't think the police will be that interested if I have no evidence.

There are about 300 pics of my baby on the memory card going back to when he was a newborn. If it is this chap, must be an arse to nick a camera and sell it but an even bigger arse to delete 300 pics of someone's baby so he can make a quick buck on a camera.

Ilovemyboy, I'd be gutted to lose so many lovely photos too , but did you know that it is possible to buy software (I've seen it on QVC), to restore deleted photos. Apparently, they are never gone completely and it is possible to get them back. So if you did manage to get this camera back, you could restore the images back onto the memory card.. that is if it is the same memory card obviously. Hope you manage to get it back.

you know what? I actually would phone the police. if they say there is nothing they can do then at least you have tried.
e-mail ebay too, though they'll probably ignore you like they normally do

Ilovemyboy · 09/05/2007 22:29

Browny - that's really interesting. I will research it further.

Need to speak so DP about what we are going to do next. Will just wait for this man to get back to us I suppose.

Is there any way you could tell if you had this camera in your hands that it was yours?

If so I would 'buy' it (cameras go for very little on ebay). Go and pick it up with dh and brother/big mate. If when checking its yours and in your hand walk away shouting over shoulder 'Its my camera, you nicked it from me in Bluewater'. Don't pay [obviously] with paypal just pretend you would be paying cash on day.

Get in car and leg it. He's not exactly going to call the police is he?

Get home, get software to restore photos, job done.

Only do above if when in your hands you definitely think its yours

If I didn't have the nads to do the above then I would call the police, I would definitely get them to intervene and get the camera.

Today I would do the first one.......but then again I have pmt

Ilovemyboy · 10/05/2007 15:33

Lauriefairycake - Would love to have the nads to do that.

I have reported it to the police and have an incident no. They have asked me to buy it first and then we can take it from there.

I think I will start bidding for it to be honest. He emailed me back this morning confirming that he has none of the leads or software for it. I would be able to tell which one it is by the batteries that we put in it and the case which was bought seperately.

Excellent, at least by buying it you know that the photos are not with someone else and if it is your camera I'm guessing you will get the money back from paypal (if its over £15) if stolen.

Good luck in buying it .

Sorry I didn't get back sooner.

I asked the chap if he was selling the camera with a case and he said there was no case.

DP thought that because of this it was all a big coincidence and it wasn't our camera (much to my annoyance).

We didn't buy it because we are going to buy a better one. I would have loved to have bought it anyway (plus the software etc) so maybe I could have proved that it was him that stole it but DP was so unsure about it.

You were all waiting for some big drama weren't you?
