.. so you get it in two weeks, what sort of obligation are the Passport Office under to get it to you in two weeks? Any experience? DD2's has run out and that only gives us a week's leeway. TIA

you can go somewhere and get it done in one day cant you?

Budababe · 09/05/2007 06:18

Normally quite good I think. Not sure of the UK ones but DS and I both needed new passports to go to States over Easter and ours had to go from Budapest to Dublin and back again - we had mine back 4 days before and DS's the day before. And that was with a 4 day holiday at the beginning here and then Easter at the end.

I think if you put in proof of your travel such as a copy of the ticket they will normally manage it. When you say a week's leeway do you mean you have 3 weeks in total?

earlgrey · 09/05/2007 06:20

Pops, yes, you can, but it's £93 instead of £40-odd and a whole effing day in London ....

ah

earlgrey · 09/05/2007 06:26

Sorry, Buda, yes I mean if I put the application in today we'll have 3 weeks in total.

Put in proof of your travel dates too and it should be OK. The Irish system has a website where you can track the progress of the application - you copy the number off the top of the application. Am sure UK must have the same.

Thanks Buda. We're going with friends who've arranged the trip so I hope they've got some documentation by now (they only did it last week and what with bank holiday 'n' all ...)

Hmm, filled in the application form yesterday and it quite clearly says on the back of the envelope that they can't guarantee returning passports within 2 weeks. So a whole effing day in Victoria it is then ....

Yup - they clearly say that they can't guarantee it and that you SHOULD NOT make travel plans before receiving it - which is a whole bundle of fun for me who is waiting for one two, using the 2 week turn around service when I have to leave for a wedding abroad in 3. And I couldn't plan in advance as I was waiting to be naturalised and it's all only just come in - and I couldn't get to London for the one day service. sigh
If you want the one day service, phone now because they have to book you an appointment and they don't have a million available.
