Dd up against the window like a mad puppy, 'mummy, its stopped, oh no it hasn't, please can we go out, MUMMY MAKE IT STOP!!'

There is a limit to how many times we can go to the blooming library.

Help.

It's official - there was only ONE day in June when it didn't rain in Glasgow.

And July isn't turning out much better!

I bought dh a set of boules for Father's Day (they cost a fortune!) and we've not been able to play a game yet. He tried them out on Sunday but the back garden is still so soggy that they were just making big dents!

We really must book ourselves a summer holiday! Even just a weekend away!

IDismyname · 09/07/2002 10:30

Hear hear. Where the hell is all this rain coming from? (Yes, yes, I know really...)

Feeling V. low about weather, esp having read yesterday that it might continue until August....

Ironic thing is, we have had our mains water switched off, so no water between 8am and 4 pm for the next 2 weeks, and during that time, a 36 hour period when NO water at all.

ARGH!!

I heard back in the Spring that it was going to be a cr*p, wet summer not just for us but for most of NW Europe until the END of August...it's looking like an accurate forecast so far.
Our garden is under water at the bottom and snails have eaten all my cascading petunias...

Joe1 · 09/07/2002 11:28

I hadnt heard it was going on until August, great. We had planned a barbecue later this month, some days out, all these will have to be wait and see what the weather does now then.
I have had a few things hanging on the line for a few days now, dont want to get soaked getting it in but it isnt going to dry either.

Even here in (usually) arid East Anglia it's pouring.

Thank God for the tumble dryer.

Thank God for the fact that our new house has a covered verandah/porch effort large enough for dd to ride her trike up and down. Sadly it's not large enough for football - have resorted to pointing out to ds that it rained a lot in Japan and it didn't stop them playing the World Cup, then throwing him and the football out into the garden to get on with it. I'm probably a cruel mother.

We have actually had a few nice days even though the forcast was poor. Typical today though, I've just got some washing ready to hang out and the rain has started. Last year we picked the worst week of the year to go away in our caravan, packed up to come home a day early and then got stuck in a ford at the bottom of a hill with a burnt out clutch because the soaking wet awning made the caravan too heavy for the car to pull up such a steep hill on wet tarmac. The rain was exceptionally bad that day though, Scarborough sea front was flooded so badly that all the road surface broke up - and we are talking August here! BTW we will be going away for the first week in August again this year, so if any of you have any sense you should avoid planning anything for that week because it is bound to rain - it always does when we go away.

Azzie · 09/07/2002 12:38

PamT, where do you live? - it strikes me that wherever it is might be the best place to go for some good weather while you're away!

Queenie · 09/07/2002 12:49

Just had a lovely playgym delivered this morning for dd for the garden - looks like a well spent £125.00 - maybe we will put it up in the living room and I can hang my washing on it to dry!

Our primary school has just had its 3rd attempt at a Sports Day cancelled - last week they had 2 goes at the Infants, both rained off, today was 1st try for Juniors, ditto - Infants rerescheduled for tomorrow, Juniors rescheduled for Thursday, if it's still wet that's it for the year...I'm beginning to think they should start trying to fit them in in May!

tigermoth · 09/07/2002 14:29

Janh you've just reminded me to give my son's school a phone - sports day planned for this afternoon - dare I hope for miracles???

tigermoth · 09/07/2002 14:31

cancelled due to weather!

MandyD · 09/07/2002 14:48

Aw, Tigermoth, poor kids...(mind you, I used to dread sports day when I was at school!)

My DS's playgroup were having their annual outing to the seaside today (Southend) and it was going ahead. But we weren't going anyway, he has a horrible flu-y cold at the moment. So here we are, watching Lee Evans Mouse Hunt video for the third time today, punctuated with coughs and whimpers. Am I bored? You bet!

Dd1's (1st ever) sports day was scheduled for today. Late morning/afternoon was glorious, but due to the fact that it hammered down first thing the field was too soggy, and it was cancelled - may be next week...or maybe not.
And we had a letter saying that dd2's new nursery (being built at dd1's school) may not be finished for September. Oh joy!

PamT · 12/07/2002 10:09

We have sports days on Monday (DS1) and Tuesday (DS2) and I'm actually hoping that it does rain. Our family are hopeless at sports and I always feel so sorry for my boys when they come last in every race. I don't particularly enjoy having to entertain DD for 2 hours whilst we are watching the races either. I'm such a spoilsport!
