What are the rules about staying on your own land?

I seem to remember some story somewhere that travelling families were prevented from buying land and living on it? And I wondered how that affected if you bought say half an acre of woodland and camped on there for the summer.

Anyone any ideas? Cos I think it would be lovely to camp in the woods in an RV for the summer.

i think the issue was setting uppermanent residence or building on the land

friends bought land in the forest of dean, they camp on it and have a mutual traveller friend park their bus for a short period.

As long as it isn't permanent,it should be ok.

Be warned, someone will be bound to complain though! We had an empty caravan parked in one of our fields & some rich bloke complained to the council, saying that he didn't spend £££££££'s on a country house to look out of the window & see a caravan. The council made us move it,despite it just being stored there & not used.We later found that we had a right to put quite a few caravans there if we'd wanted, but by then it was too late.

I have a feeling that you can camp or park a caravan on your own site, but only for a certain number of months a year so that the site is completely clear for at least part of the year. And I don't think you can connect any utilities, like water.

I belive you can camp on your own woods, I think there are restrictions, possibly not for more than 30 consecutive days? DH knows, I'll ask him tonight.
