Not unusual - but jewellery (to put aside for when she is grown-up) is nice - its a present for her and not for the parents. Dh has silver cufflinks with his initials on that were a christening present from his godparents and he really treasures them. DD's godparents got her a silver cross necklace (adult size) which was nice.

DD also got a £5 coin from the Royal Mint with her birth year on it. Although it was some kind of special edition for the Queen's jubilee (2002).

On the other hand, I bought my goddaughter a push'n'go Thomas the Tank engine. She thought it was her best present...

Well for dd's Christening MY favourite gifts were, a little glass bear with her name engraved, a little leather bible and a gold bracelet (never to be worn!).

We received a personalised framed tapestry with name, dob etc and apart from the other things like engraved jewellery a nice little tooth fairy pot.

DD had a naming ceremony on her first birthday and some of the things she got were a charm bracelet in adult size with 1 charm on it to be added to every year till shes old enough to have it, a tooth and curl box,a china doll which has her name- katie-,loads of jewellery,a nice jewellery box,50 balloons with her name on realeased into the air at the end of the ceremony.

My dd2's godparents are being her a piece of antique jewelery. The point is that it doesn't need to be expensive now but can be put away until she's 21 at which point it will hopefully be a thing of beauty as well as a thing of more value.

What I didn't want were things for now like toys and clothes. I wanted something I could put away for when she was older. Loobie - I like your idea and someone has already started that for my dd1 but I've yet to get dd2 off the ground.
