hi hestor nasty little blighters arent they.i had them recently all through my kitchen,in every cupboard ,and with a 7mth old it made me feel really queasy.i just bought a bottle of antibac cleaner and emptied every cupboard at a time and cleaned the cupboard and everything in it thoroughly.obviously washing the plates etc.any opened packets in the cupboards i threw away as the blighters had got in there.then i just kept an eye on it ,i did have the odd one or two wandering about for a couple of days but everytime i found them i just wiped with the cleaner again.luckily they just stopped at my kitchen but i guess just do the same wherever they are ,disinfectant should be ok as well to use.and hoover well everywhere beds sofas etc .
hope that helps and hope your rid of them soon
hugs karenanne

Blimey, hestor, I've seen several cases where they are in the food cupboards, but never all over the house. They come in in dry foods, flour, rice etc, and then spread throughout your cupboards. I used to work for Tupperware and I sold a lot of containers on the principle that they are the only ones weevils can't get in and out of, so if you happened to have bought a bag of flour with weevils in, if you had put it straight into a container they would be trapped in there and wouldn't contaminate anything else.

I don't know how you would deal with them in the carpets and upholstery though. Perhaps you could phone your local council for advice. IME councils have a pest control department where you can find out how to deal with a situation like this.

If it's any comfort I don't believe they actually do any harm, they're just not something human beings like to live with are they?

nutcracker · 29/07/2004 14:18

Hi Hestor, Dp is a ex pest controller, so i'll ask him what you can do when he comes home later.

hestor · 29/07/2004 14:29

Ooh yes please Nutcracker I'd be so grateful. Can you ask him if they do go into other rooms that he knows of please?
Hi Kareanne and Anorak, thanks for your posts. They're absolutely horrible.I just don't know what I can do with them in other rooms. It's a bit easier if you only have to clean out a kitchen cupboard or two. They get on my books,in my bead box and even in a handbag in my wardrobe.I hate it every time I see one and I feel powerless to do anything.I have tried going through each book and squashing them but i got half way through and gave up we have so many.

What are weevils please?

Bibiboo · 29/07/2004 16:27

these are weevils i think

Northerner · 29/07/2004 16:30

Yuk!!

I had them once too - It made me feel horrid. Thankfuly they stayed in the kitchen but got into everything. Basically I did the same as Karenanne, although I also dunked all tins and unopened packets in water and disinfectant too I felt so spooked by it. I then found they seemed to be living in the cracks in the cupbourds where they were fixed into the wall and they came back so I then buoght some spray that you put around the edges of cupboards and leave on. I know it said not around food, but since everything was by then in sealed containers I figured it would be fine and I wuldn't get poisoned by anything.
I never saw them again, and we have lived to tell the tale. Horrid though.

nutcracker · 29/07/2004 19:24

Hestor are you about at the mo ????

Hi, dp said to ask you....

Is there any way you can take a piccie of one and post a link on here ???

If not could you give a detailed descritption with lenght colour e.t.c, as there are lots of different ones.

nutcracker · 29/07/2004 21:11

Sorry i realise that they are only tiny things, and you probably don't want a close look at it anyway.

hestor · 29/07/2004 21:14

I don;t think I'd be able to find one if I was looking but I could try.Has he come across it before?

OP posts:
nutcracker · 29/07/2004 21:16

Do you know what colour size and shape they are ??

I have a book full of them in front of me but there are loads.

nutcracker · 29/07/2004 21:17

Yep he has come across them before. I asked him if it's unusual to get them around the house, and he said it all depends which ones they are.

hestor · 29/07/2004 21:24

They are like someone posted in the link below thhey're flour weevils I think at least that's what they look like.I can't tell them apart from the ones I had in my kitchen.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 29/07/2004 22:07

O.k dp said that it is still most likely the flour one as it's the most common one.

The only thing you can do really is to clear out any cupboards that you have seen them in, vac the cupboards out, and wipe them out with disinfectant.

Sorry i can't be of anymore help, but he said that thats the only way to get rid of them.

Hope it works anyhow.

hestor · 29/07/2004 22:54

Ok thank him and to you for your help.
