Hi everyone, clueless new mum here, can any of you experienced mums help? This might sound thick, but i begrudge paying a fortune for parenting magazines when this type of question isn't even usually answered, but what exactly should i be dressing / layering my dd in at night now the weathers getting warmer? At the moment, she's in vest, babygrow and a gro-bag (not a very thick one) as she has very active legs and blankets went everywhere after about ten seconds. When do i reduce her layers? What to? Dur!!!

How old is your dd?

It sounds quite a lot in view of the current weather (unless your dd is only a little baby), but it does get quite cold overnight atm.

What tog grobag do you have? Might be worth investing in a 1 tog one for summer. My DS just wears a long sleeved vest under his grobags (has a 2.5 and a 1 tog one). There is a guide with the grobag. If you like, I can post it for you? Tells you what they should wear in what temperature etc.

I would say that vest, babygrow and grobag is too much in this weather.

hi mercy & bristols, dd is 5 1/2 months old, so still a bit a babba. Bristol, if you could let me have the guideline that would be fab! Again, ndew to mumsnet: what do i do??

mines in a babygro and grobag atm.

Mercy · 29/04/2007 20:32

It is better for a baby to be slighty cool than too hot, so I would suggest bodysuit and gro-bag atm.

Tbh, it partly depends how warm or cool the bedroom is. Is she in your room or her own room?

Right: FOR 2.5 TOG GROBAG

Nursery temp: 20C, wear long sleeved bodysuit

Nursert temp: 18C, wear long sleeved bodysuit and pyjama top

Nursery temp: 16C, wear long sleeved bodysuit and long sleeved babygrow

FOR 1.0 TOG GROBAG

Nursery temp: 24C, wear short sleeved bodysuit

Nursery temp: 22C, wear long sleeved bodysuit

Nursery temp: 20C, wear short sleeved bodysuit and pyjama top.

Bodysuit = vest.

I agree that babys are better off on the cool side rather than warm. I do think you are overdressing your baby. In this weather, our nursery is anything between 20 and 24C so DS just wears long sleeved vest and we change the grobag for the right tog rating.

Hope this helps.

And BTW, you're not thick! This is what MN is for

she just moved into her own room yesterday: our bedroom (which she moved out of) is two rooms knocked into one so it's pretty big, so would that make a difference to the pleasant thought of warm body air and parps from mum and dad making the room warm? The room size she is now in is quite a bit smaller. if it's any help she weighs 16lb?

Bristols, Mercy, Nappyaddict, thank you all so much! Just told hubby the verdicts and looks like vests are out the window for night and day time at moment and just throw a knited cardi on at day if we go out and it's nippy! Thanks ladies! Have a fab evening!

I'm probably a bit over the top but I check the temp in his room every night and dress him for bed in the right tog grobag accordingly. Very virgo, I know! Would definitely recommend getting a thermometer for the nursery and then you know where you are.

You have a good evening too
