We're moving into our new home soon (I hope!). I'm really struggling to decide on a colour scheme for DD's (2.4) new bedroom. I know it may sound a daft thing to be stuck about but it's the first time she'll truly have her own room, coloured however we choose as we're starting all the decorating from sctatch.
I really want this to be special for her as she's got a lot going on at the moment, what with moving and DD2's arrival in the near future as well.
Can anyone give me some inspiration? I'll really consider anything!

we've recently moved and painted dd room a lovley marshmello pink we had a darker pink carpet laided and have used lilac on all the wood work.

we then got the bedding stickers etc from next.

we decided to use stickers on the wall that way if dd gets bored or they start looking tiredsum it won't cost a fortune to re-done the room.

All of my kids are having their rooms decorated at the mo (nightmare).
DD's are 6 and 4 and they have chosen which colours they want. They are having pink and lilac. I am then going to find some stickers for their walls as they are easy to remove when they get fed up.
They will both be quite girly. I am getting their furniture from Ikea, as they have a lovely white range with the wardrobe, chest of drawers and a bookcase for about 120 quid.
Ds is having a space theme in his room. He is only 19mths old, and not into space at all at the mo, but i wanted something that would last him a while.

Our children's room is north-facing and had a hideous greeny-blue swirly carpet, dark red velvet curtains and a proper built-in cupboard with cream doors with vile gold beading and cameos, all of which we had to keep. So we painted the walls a sunny yellow, except for the wall facing the window, which is a gaudy orange. This makes the room always look warm, despite the cold north light. The cupboard doors were painted a pastelly-mauve eggshell all over. We left the rest of the woodwork in its original white gloss. There is a less bright orange rug on the floor and the furniture is all fairly pale blond wood. We have some pictures and stick-arounds on the walls, some of which pick up some of the colours. It sounds gaudy, but works very nicely. Another thing that works nicely in the room is that most of the bedding is pastel versions of the other colours.

We didn't exactly plan a scheme, just put colours together and found a combination that we liked and that was ok with the carpet and curtain colours. The 'accessories' were just picked up as and when.

Thanks for your suggestions . I am tempted towards a light yellow as it'll be easy to interchange with other colours in the future. Maybe easier than pink and lilac? Though, my first thought was to go for pink and lilac, there are so many nice things which are easy to pick up in these colours. But, DD is developing a healthy interest in wildlife and flowers at present, so it would be easy to turn a room based on yellows into a spring/natural scene. Oh flippin heck, this decision could take some time!
And as for the rest of the house!

my tip would be to decide on the bed linen/curtains first-it's much easier to find paint to match them, than the other way around IYKWIM

also take into consideration the natural light coming in to the room,as this can really effect how colours can look.Test patches on a bit of spare lining paper,so you can move it around the walls to see the differences that natural/artificial light makes at different times of the day.

we painted dd's room before we knew what we were having - a bright turquoise on one wall and 3 walls white. It's perfect for her. Girlie but not pink - lots of fabrics around for curtains, duvets etc that match. I'm a big fan of just painting one wall and leaving the rest plain, sometimes it can be a bit much, esp if it's a bright colour.

Thanks boudicca for the tips, the lining paper one's a particularly good idea .
Thanks hana for reminding me aqua/turquoise is another colour I'm really into at the moment . Maybe I'll just go for one big rainbow!
