I am just old - why can't they tell me that?

I have been for 2 teaching jobs. I have a fuck off C.V. in a related subject. I am qualified. I would be a great member of a team etc etc...BUT they are giving the jobs to younger people and I refuse to go for any more interviews as the 'outsider' 'oh let's see her she has worked with loads of famous people' Then give the same reason for not giving me the job - something they woudl have known by looking at my CV.
I am just old!!!

bastards

Totally with you on this one, just been refused for an interview that my CV indicates, I'm more than qualified to do. Grgghh!! Someone who works in HR, did once tell me that if they have a lot of applicants, they don't bother to read all of the CVs, just split them into 2 piles and read one pile. I comfort myself with this thought (along with Ben and Jerrrys ice cream) whilst contemplating another rejection. BTW, I always ask for feedback, (nicely, of course), in case I need to make changes. Never do, but worth bearing in mind.

Beetrootccio · 25/04/2007 13:19

I get the interview - 'the novelty act' and then don't get the job.

FUCK OFF no more

Beety, there's no way they can tell you 'it's because you're too old' as a reason. It's illegal to discriminate on the grounds of age, as of last October.

foxinsocks · 25/04/2007 13:24

I feel for you. I think interviews are bloody discriminatory. They should just give you the job, that's what I think.

All this pissing about asking pointless questions - you should be allowed to just walk in and say 'do you want me or not'.

rantinghousewife · 25/04/2007 13:25

True, they can't tell you that but if they want someone younger, they can always think of some excuse. Chippy? Me?!!!

Beetrootccio · 25/04/2007 13:25

I know NQC but I wish they woudl just not bother to see me when they already know they will not give me the job

Beetrootccio · 25/04/2007 13:29

shall we have the one over 40, with 4 kids or the young single one who will have more time.

READ MY CV ffs!!!

You don't have enough 'a' level experience - well you knew that before I came for intgerview.

grrrr for you.

Do you go through an agency? If so, I'd have a serious word about the quality of jobs they are coming up with. They should know if you have a good chance of the job or not.

AnnabelCaramel · 25/04/2007 13:31

Have you ever just thought of omitting your age/dob from your cv? If it is on there, and is one of the first things they see, perhaps they don't read any further. Just leave it off.

Beetrootccio · 25/04/2007 13:32

No I don't jsut through TES.

I shall not look anymore - it was a sort of left field idea that I might give me regular income rater than freelance and be nearer to home.- but I shall jsut stay freelance

This is so maddening, isn't it? My dh had this after he was made redundant - they can think of all sorts of excuses but funny how the person getting the job is younger!! Keep fighting, Beetrootccio!!!!
