Right then, you may have seen a few threads like this from me over the last few days and now our options have increased.
DH can transfer to Bognor Regis (barnham), Brighton or Eastbourne.

We know very little about the areas so could anyone tell us which are the nice parts of each place.

Thanks.

For some stats and info em, you can always have a look on www.upmystreet.com. They have info about everything from how good the schools are to the average house prices. Also a forum where you could ask local questions about the areas.

I do worse typos than that! Dont worry! Hopefully people will give you some first hand info. Good luck

I have just noticed that on the last 50 active conversations there is a Brighton meetup thred. You could always try asking the girls on there about Brighton (perhaps e-mail them direct or ask them to look at your thread). Just incase they miss this one. I hope that makes sense!

well i spent most of my childhood and schooling in Barnham which is a little village (grown somewhat) its on the main railway line so has good travel links and is in a pretty setting. I now live in Bognor Regis about 15 min drive away and love it. Personally I wouldn't live in Brighton too big for me. Eastbourne is nice been there a few times for trips out.

Tortington · 26/07/2004 00:04

i moved from up north to a twon outside brighton and so i don't know it very well. i think it very much depends on how/where you live. brighton has its very very exclusive parts its a very trendy city. but it is exactly that a city. accomodation would be hard to find. renting would be diffucult for the right area and every bloody thing is expensive. its hard to compare a city to a town. brightons gay scene, nightlife and social scene with trendy cafes etc are not easily paralleled within england outside of london. however becuase it is a city it has the same problems every other city does eg. areas of social deprivation, drug culture, refugees and homelessness.

now that isn't to say you couldn't live somewhere outside brighton and commute. just outside brighton its feckin midle class britain all over the shop with tory posters standing proud come election time( something i certainly never encountered before) places along the A23 and A27. again house prices are enormous - but i can kinda see why. i will name a few towns i know easily within distance of brighton. there is a great coastal rail link btw. so here goes up my street these and maybe opther mnetters can tell you more than this northern originator can.
littlehampton, goring by sea, worthing, haywards heath, east preston, horsham. there are little villages dotted here and there like upper beading and sompting and ferring.

hope this will do.

never been to eastbourne but i always think of old people - and thats not necessarily a bad thing that usually means a nice area to bring up children - again tho- never actually been.

Thanks girls.

Mands1, Barnham is one of the places that DH has collegues at (obviously as the transfer would be there!!) and we've been looking at houses in Bognor so you never now we could be neighbours before long.

Custardo, the power of MN has reached DH as it was his suggestion to ask on here and your post has made him stike Brighton off the 'possible' list. It's the city living that we want to get away from and your decription sounds like you're talking about where we are now.

dont live in any of those but we do live in a seaside town down 'south' and it has a high elderly population but that doesnt bother me, infact it makes it quite safe and old fashioned. The only thing i dont like about living by the sea is the masses of tourists on a weekend and the drinking/drugs culture

noddy5 · 26/07/2004 15:38

I live in Brighton and love it although it is mainly for young people and probably won't stay here when Im older but for now we love the atmosphere there are loads of things to do and the schools are great. It is quite expensive though
