you a very strange lady

MrsBadger · 24/04/2007 10:26

I sometimes use it if someone says something that takes me by surprise to express a kind of metaphorical U-turn:
'I thought she was working things out with her husband but after six months of Relate conselling she turned round and said she was leaving him.'

NadineBaggott · 24/04/2007 10:26

that has been said

dd1 has a nasty habit of walking away as she is muttering something under her breath, so nearly every day, I turn around and say "what did you say?"

hope this helps

Wotzsaname · 24/04/2007 10:28

never seen this before, will be watching out for spinning folk in future......

sixlostmonkeys · 24/04/2007 12:11

Sometimes I may 'turn round' and speak but on the 'other hand' I may 'keep it buttoned'

piglit · 24/04/2007 12:13

Lol @ NB. That expression really annoys me too!

"At the end of the day"

That annoys me. Like a pair of too tight knickers, it gets right up my bum.

emat · 24/04/2007 15:04

I have a friend and everyone she speaks to seems to spin and spin as they talk.
'So I says to her.....and she turned around to me and says.....so I turned to her and say.....

I sometimes wonder if they're ice-skating as they're having their conversation. I'm dizzy even listening.

UnquietDad · 24/04/2007 15:05

And she's like, raising her voice? At the, like, end of every sentence? Like it's, like, a question? As well as, like, saying like all the time? What is, like, that all about?

emat · 24/04/2007 15:08

Another firend says 'What ja call it?' all the time but not when she's trying to remember the name of something, she says it to replace 'em'
Like when she phones me and says...'What ja call it? Do you want to go for a walk to night?'

NadineBaggott · 24/04/2007 15:43

AQI unquietdad a pet hate of mine also

"Stephen Fry (I think) coined the term "Australian Question Intonation" or AQI, where every sentence sounds like a question. It seems the Aussies started it all. It's now becoming common in Essex too. Very annoying!"
