What colour is your living room ??

Just wanted a general idea of how light or dark peoples living rooms are.
We have a 29ft living/dinning room with a window at each end. At the mo it is entirly magnolia (thanks to H/A). We had decided to leave the top half magnolia, and paint the bottom in Crown Liquer paint. We have a border for the middle which is a mixture of cream, beige and coccie coloured squares.

Thing is i'm now not that keen on having the border in the middle (bit too tempting for little fingers).
I was thinking of painting the whole lot in the Liquere colour and having the border at the top.
Dp reckons it'll be much to dark though. Obviously we wouldn't know til we did it really.

Just thought i'd see who has what colours in their houses.

Oh and i have already brought the Liqure so can't change it.

hi, i'm a paint colour amateur sorry, what colour is Liqure? I'm thinking it's like dark brown maybe?

nutcracker · 24/07/2004 20:40

Think Baileys

Natural Calico (not its not magnolia - honestly !) - washable Dulux Real Life - yes and things (so far) wash off it !

nutcracker · 24/07/2004 20:46

Ahhh we had a tester pot of that i seem to remember Whizz.

So does anyone reckon that a whole room painted the colour of Baileys would be too dark ???
I have a choccie brown suit, cream and beech wall unit and cream curtains. Oh and beech laminate flooring with pale rug.

Snap nutty. I have 3 walls in Liqueur - think it was called that - a sort of Baileys colour. Other wall - chimney breast wall - is in 'Mocha' ie Poo Brown. This was then discontinued by Crown about 2 weeks after I bought - obviously I don't quite have my pulse on interior design.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the border. Far easier to change the colour of the walls otherwise.

Tinker · 24/07/2004 20:48

It's not dark just warm. Mine needs re-doing now though

nutcracker · 24/07/2004 20:54

I have already brought the border though too . Thought i better buy it before i spent the money.

We've also got Natural Hessain (is that spelt right ??) on one wall - the trouble is after several coats, it still looks patchy in places in certain light !

nutcracker · 24/07/2004 21:00

I just think one colour would a) be easier/quicker to do and b) i'd be less likely to go off it so quickly.

If i got some cream cushions for the sofa and made sure that most accesories were pale then i *think8 it would look o.k.

I do generally prefer darker colours in living rooms, hallways and bedrooms, and usually pick pale colours for kitchen and bathroom as they are smaller.

I love baileys colour and think it would look lovely

My living room is dark cream with choc brown leather suite, pale and dark brown rug and beech laminate flooring.

lou33 · 24/07/2004 21:58

Mine is white

Frenchgirl · 24/07/2004 22:01

'Bali sands'......
with horrid grass green carpet from previous owners still not replaced (but have puppy at the moment so he can pee all he wants on it and then we can replace it)

ijewels · 24/07/2004 22:01

I have just changed my living room from yellow (primrose from last tenant) to cream and i am SOOOO happy. Would love some leather sofa's to complement my new lifestyle but have settled for two new throws!

Piffleoffagus · 24/07/2004 22:10

huge liv room here, painted in white with a hint of gren, so with dark green blinds it looks clean airy and large!
Hoooray
have hatred of borders so not the one to comment on that LOL

lou33 · 24/07/2004 22:15

I don't like borders either. Imo it makes the room height look lower.

In a minority here, but our living room is quite dark (cosy I call it!) It was called Spice, but most people would call dark red! We have dark green curtains, a pale gold sofa with red throws and I really like it. It looks especially nice at christmas

Yes but you worded it so much better. Am flagging on spacemonkeys sofa, losing my speech

fairydust · 24/07/2004 22:20

oh nutty - not again i thought you'd sorted this

i think the colour would look lovely all over being such a large room i think you'd get away it.

And you know i'm always right

Our living room is painted with Dulux one coat Buttermilk and I love it, it's so light and airy looking. A baileys colour sounds ok to me since it's such a huge room with windows at both ends there should be plenty of light coming in.

Definitely check out the Dulux site that Twiglett suggested I've had hours of fun there

Oh and I wouldn't have a border but that's just me. I had a border in my bedroom once and it was a nightmare to take off when I wanted to paint the room a different colour, it didn't come off actually if I remember correctly and I had to paint over it.

nutcracker · 24/07/2004 23:31

O.k i have painted several big patches to see how it looks. It's a bit hard to tell in this light, so as soon as i get up tommorow, i'll have a look and go with my gut reaction.

Thanks guys

Hi Fd long time no speak. I had a virus on my computer, and then my MSN dissapeared. Have it back now but keep forgetting to sign in.
Will speak soon hopefully.
