I think there are 2 versions of it, with one version aimed at children. I could be wrong though!

Froot - I would definitely let a 10 yr-old read it. My ds1 is just 7, but an advanced reader. He also has some aspergers traits. I would love him to read the book, but at the moment am holding off because of the swearing, which I think is pretty full-on.

The adult/children's distinction is only the cover, unfortunately, as far as I've been able to ascertain.

I have read it btw.

What sort of books does your ds enjoy reading/has he enjoyed reading recently?

Just found this - "The novel is being published simultaneously for adults by Jonathan Cape and for children by David Fickling, publisher of Philip Pullman. We are convinced that both audiences will recognise it as one of those very rare books that change the way you see everything."

Hi Froot, I read this book a few months ago now. To be honest I found it pretty hard going (I'm 26yrs & 8mths!) I'm not even sure your DS would enjoy it.
Saying this I did appreciate the book and thought it was an excellent insight into the mind of a child with Aspergers. I was a little concerned of the violence the boy in the book felt towards some people and the fact that he carried a swiss army knife with him so that he could stab people if they got a bit too close for comfort.

Sorry, also meant to add that if you are a bit concerned perhaps you read it first.
Hope I've helped.

my son was 9 when he read it, he read it over a weekend as an advanced reader and loved it, it is a superb important and stark but warm book...

He sounds gorgeous to me, can only hope our DS loves books as much as yours. We have books EVERYWHERE!

My ds1 IS geeky - so don't worry about it.

He's only just 7, but already we're getting to the stage where he won't read something if I suggest it, so I have to work on ways of subtly leaving things lying around.

Hope you enjoy Curious Dog - I think it's great. Quite compulsive reading, and doesn't take long.
