Are you sure they are DM. I thought they were impossible to see with the naked eye. Could they be something else.

charliecat · 24/07/2004 14:17

What do they look like? Fleas hop, fruit flys fly, those two things come to mind, I also thought you couldnt see them.

mummysurfer · 24/07/2004 14:23

me too, i thought they were thankfully too small for the naked eye

Furball · 24/07/2004 21:52

According to This Site you can fit 6 of them on the end of a pin. So, yours are either 'very well fed' or they're some other little creepy crawley. Yikes!

hestor · 25/07/2004 18:32

Someone must have seen some creepy crawlies in their house after all we all have dust mites.

Angeliz · 25/07/2004 18:33

Have you been eating Kryptonite??

(Have lots of creepy crawly things in our house eargh!!)

Lisa78 · 25/07/2004 18:39

everyone has them hestor, they are one of the creepy things that live in your soft furnishings and feed off your shed skin cells! But I doubt you can see them - don't quite know what you have in your house if you can see them, but if it were me, I'd ring someone who did know! But then, I freak out if I see anything that has more legs than my dog

littlemissbossy · 25/07/2004 19:11

yes we all have dust mites, but I didn't think you could see them either - are you sure they're not fleas or some other bug?

Lisa78 · 25/07/2004 19:30

PMSL lmb!!! "Hi hestor, do you have fleas"
tact and subtlety, I like that on mn!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though, it could be if you have animals? Any bites?

What do they look like - size, colour, legs, wings?

nutcracker · 25/07/2004 19:46

Dp (ex pest controller) said that you definatly cannot see dustmites with the naked eye.

Lisa78 · 25/07/2004 19:53

okay people, I'm itching now

littlemissbossy · 25/07/2004 20:00

yes lisa, full of tact as always I personally liked furballs comment of "yours must be very well fed"

suedonim · 25/07/2004 20:25

I've just read an article by a chap whose house is infested with bedbugs - maybe that's what they are?

hmb · 25/07/2004 20:29

Interesting fact, bedbugs don't tend to live in beds, they live in cracks in walls etc, crawl onto the bed, bite you, suck yout blood and then crawl back into the crack in the wall.

Might you have been seeing thunder bugs, we always get loads when they start to hrveat the field round us?

hestor · 26/07/2004 12:26

Bed bugs are a lot more common now as people buy a lot of used furniture and apparantly they come in that.
The mites are tiny and they're not erevywhere but I've found one in my bead box,one in a handbag in the wardrobe and some in books. They're definately not fleas. They're starting to really bug me.Somebody tell me they've seen one.

Hestor, you can't see dust mites (unless you are supergirl, as they are way too small to be seen with the naked eye.

This is from the web
'What are dust mites?
Dust mites are tiny bugs that live in your home. They measure about 1/100th of an inch in length, which is smaller than the period at the end of this sentence. Dust mites feed off of pet and human dander (dust), and their waste is a major cause of allergies and asthma. In children who have asthma, dust mites can cause them to wheeze more and need more asthma medicine. So, cutting down the number of dust mites in the home is an important step if your child has allergies or asthma.

Dust mites love warm, humid areas filled with dust. Bed pillows, mattresses, carpets and furniture are great places for them to live. Cleaning each one of these places can make a real difference in the number of dust mites in your home.'

So they are smaller than a full stop. If what you are finding are about 2 mm ling and almost look like little black splinters you are looking at thunder bugs.

Furball · 26/07/2004 13:23

hestor - This page? any use to you, to help with your quest.

hestor · 26/07/2004 14:32

Ok perhaps they're not dustmites. They look like weevils but their not in my kitchen cupboards. They seem to like paper I had a lot of them in a basket where I kept papers. Now they just turn up occasionally, like in my bead box there was one.Hasn't anyone seen one of these things?I think I'll give up soon. Thanks for the link.,Furball.

OP posts:
Blu · 26/07/2004 14:36

How big are they, Hestor? and what colour, and do they look like little beetles, or some other kind of insect?
Carpet beetles are like tiny little beetles with a grey back with blck spots - is it them?

hestor · 26/07/2004 15:32

They're not beetles, they're thin and browwny and look like weevils.

OP posts:
Gingerbear · 26/07/2004 15:37

thunderbugs are black though. could be woodworm beetles?

Piffleoffagus · 26/07/2004 15:42

borer!
