Will it affect my credit rating?

My ex moved out of this house 2 and a half years ago, most of his debts he took with him but a few he left registered at this address and just paid them every month without telling them he'd moved.

Anyway he's recently fallen behind with all his debts, there have been a few letters landing on my doorstep warning him of court action etc...it's got to the point now where he's going for an IVA.

NONE of it is in my name and my name is not associated at all with any of his debts so will it affect my credit rating at all? The only ones still registered at this address is one credit card and his catalogue...

I'm hoping to move into private renting next year and I don't want him messing it up for us, so even though its not in my name will the fact that its my address affect my credit rating?

I don't think this should affect your credit rating. The previous owner of our house had debts, including CCJs, and some of the letters still came to our address. We have no idea where he lives now. It doesn't seem to have affected our credit rating though.

It categorically will NOT affect your credit.

Debt is not address based since 2004 ( i think)

However if you have a credit association with someone ie - a loan together then they may well apprear in name on your exquifax ( or similar) credit report.

If you are unsure it is worth the £14 tolook online.

you can have a note put against your name that the debts are nothing to do with you and you will be protected you need to speak to the people who hold all credit infomation on you but i cant rember the name of them
hope that helps

Glad to see Sackache's comment, but I'd be tempted to get in touch with the big credit reference agencies and point out you have no legal or actual relationship with him, just in case. Or check directly with them, anyway. Equifax and Experian are the biggest ones. There's a third but can't remember what it's called, sorry.

You need to contact all 3 credit agencies and tell them he is no longer a financial connection to you as they do link your credit rating to partners etc and if you have not advised them he's gone and he ever gave your details they will have him listed as being connected to you. Him leaving debts at your address isn't important as credit records go on names only now days but email them all and take him off your details then you will be fine. May be a good idea to get a copy of your credit report all 3 in total cost £31.00 one is £5.99 per month but you can cancel once you obtain it.

DO you now all the credit agencies names or would you like them?

You don't have to pay £14, btw, legally they have to provide a copy of your report for a much more minimal fee (£3, I think). They used to insist you could only do the £3 thing by post but I think I heard they now will do it online - at any rate, look 'em up online, and if they want more than £3, just take their postal address and write to them.

Callcredit is the 3rd one used my most household bills and banks etc.
