hopefully that grabbed your attention!

ds1 aged 7 came out of school yesterday with very swollen , red eyes. they were scarlet and very puffy. his teacher said they had become like that in the last 15 mins and he hadn't seemed to be aware of it.
i took him home, gave him anti-histamine and he promptly fell asleep.

he woke about 30 mins later and a lot of the redness had gone and the swelling had gone a bit.

i took him to the doctor who said it sounded like an allergy of some sort-she would say hayfever but it normasly comes with other symptoms and the eyes itch etc. none of which seemed to be happening.

This morning his eyes still seemed a bit puffy and he told me his breathing felt funny last night.
tonight his eyes are competely normal but he has been wheezing. his chest was pulling in when he was breathing and his heart was racing. he's asleep now and his chest seems normal now but his heart rate still seems fast but i'm not sure what normal is.
i'm very very worried and wondering what i should do next?
what should my course of action be? please, someone with more knowledge than me-tell me what to do!!!

If he is struggling with his breathing and breaths are fast and shallow, he needs to see a doctor, as it may be an asthma-type allergic reaction. Can you time his breathing? It should normally be about 22 breaths per minute when asleep - don't panic if it is a bit more, but if it is around 40, he should definitely see a doctor sharp-ish. Ring NHS Direct and see what they say.

I'll add that I have no medical knowledge but do have a severely asthmatic child. Good luck - it sounds like an allergy of some description.

PS Shame about the dog...

Have you kept on with the anti-histamine?

My eyes are itching like crazy today, and puffy and red - I think it's tree pollen. Anti-histamine drops are really good, they work for me - but i have never managed to get any in ds.

Look out for asthma symptoms - but otherwise it sounds like normal hay-fever type allergy.

i usually have to use an inhaler for hayfever as i become so wheezy although i dont suffer with asthma.

Did you tell the doctor about his chest pulling in?
