Anyone have any ideas of places online that sell nice little dresses - I don't want to go completely mad ( I'm not spending more than £40) but I would like something nice as it's her aunt who's getting married. I have one or two possibilities in Vertbaudet but nothing that really grabs me - and the other places I've shopped onnline ( Boden, BM, Jojo) all seem to just do casual wear.

What about Monsoon? Cute girls dresses I seem to remember.

Fionn · 01/07/2002 20:21

You could try Laura Ashley too, and they've got a sale on at the moment.

susanmt · 01/07/2002 20:27

Debenhams do really nice little girlie dresses in their own range (Babble Boom) at very reasonable prices.

SofiaAmes · 01/07/2002 21:57

What about the gap. They have some gorgeous summer dresses at the moment. And if you wait another few weeks they will probably go on sale. Does H&M do online? I was in there the other day wishing the daughter in my belly was born so that I could buy some of the beautiful embroidered cotton summer dresses they have...and they are less than £10....I bought one for a friend. John Lewis usually has really nice things that are not too expensive. I don't know if they do things online.

I bought v. nice "party" dress for dd (18 mths) in Gymboree. That was a few months ago - don't know what they have now. Think they have a web site but don't know how good it is. HTH

Another vote for debenhams, their babble boom range is great, i bought a dress for dd for just £22 , it was lovely, it looked very expensive and all the guests at our wedding commented how beutifull it was.

Rkayne · 04/07/2002 14:06

Let me know if you find something - my dd will also be 18 months when my best friend gets married in September! (Meanwhile, I'm the cheif bridesmaid and she still hasn't told me what she wants me to wear but that's another story! )

The Arthur & Felice collection in the Verbadet catalogue are lovely for weddings etc.

Lollypop · 04/07/2002 20:27

I bought a lovely dress from Mothercare last year for £18. Unfortunatly it was so nice DD never wore it again as we had no more special occasions to go to and it was too good to play in. If you want to spend a little more Sarah Lou (?) dresses are pretty.

bayleaf · 04/07/2002 20:35

Thanks ladies - I looked in Debenhams and was really surprised by how nice their stuff was - and not expensive - I'll definitely look there again - Monsoon also had some nice stuff but pricier ( dress seemed ok pricewise till I realised the cardi to go with it was also £30!)
Have ordered some Vertbaudet ( yes Arthur and Felicie) stuff on the grounds that I can always send it back if I find something I like more - my first choice had sold out - a bad time to be ordering really as summer stock is rather low -
Where does one buy Sarah Lou dresses?

What about a 20 month old boy for an early October wedding? Any ideas? Dressing boys up seems sooooo much harder than girls

PamT · 11/07/2002 15:40

Some nice trousers and a shirt, possibly with a waistcoat (there should be some in the shops for christmas by the end of September). Adams, BHS and M&S are all pretty good for boys outfits. I think you can be a bit more practical with boys and buy them something that they can wear again. If you buy a frilly dress for a girl there are only limited occasions when they will be able to wear it again.

Bozza · 11/07/2002 15:49

I know PamT but it is nice to take the opportunity to dress him up for a change (and also choose his clothes myself since they are largely provided by others).

Am I right in thinking you are in Yorkshire? Because if so which BHS do you use? I go to the one in Meadowhall and have not been that impressed by the boy's clothing range. But agree with you about the others (plus Asda!).

PamT · 11/07/2002 17:18

Yes I am in Yorkshire (you must have a good memory to remember where I am - are there many Yorkshire mums on here?), I normally use Wakefield or White Rose Centre for major shopping trips. I buy most of my kids' clothes (when not given them by friends) from Primark and whoever else happens to have bargains at the time.

Bozza · 11/07/2002 17:26

PamT you must be quite close to me. Is there a BHS in Wakefield? I know there is one at White Rose.

PamT · 11/07/2002 19:32

Yes the Wakefield one is right at the entrance of the Ridings, near the Cathedral, its on two floors but it isn't huge. I'm actually about 10 miles away from Wakefield.

Tetley · 11/07/2002 20:14

I've just been on the same mission myself today, Bozza - only the wedding is mid August! I looked in BHS in Leeds (yes, I'm another W Yorks mum!) - but there was nothing other than T-shirts & shorts for boys of this age (my ds is also 20 months). There was a nice shirt in Adams, but was most impressed by Next actually - for a smart shirt & trousers. Must admit that I forgot to look in Debenhams. I haven't bought anything yet anyway - I couldn't make my mind up!
The worst thing is that I'll be 7 months pregnant at the wedding, so I'm not looking forward to dressing up (I'm going to feel like a beached whale I think )

Bozza · 11/07/2002 21:31

Snap PamT - so am I!!

PamT · 11/07/2002 21:37

Bozza, This is scary - we probably see each other in the school playground or something! I'm probably giving too much away now, but I'm actually nearer to Huddersfield (but never shop there because I don't like the carparks).

bayleaf · 12/07/2002 12:57

Well the best place for outfits for a little girl turned out to be..... TK MAX!!!! I only went in on a whim as they occasionally have nice ( and always cheap!) baby stuff - and LO! NOt one but 3 gorgeous little dresses - exactly the sort of thing that is £30 in Monsoon but for £8 or £9!!! And actually, IMO, nicer than the Monsoon dresses ( which I'd liked but been a little unsure of) So I bought all 3 so that I can try them on at home and decide! I also got a cute little straw hat in H&M - so we're all set!

Bayleaf - sounds gorgeous - love little girls dressed up.

PamT - even more scary I'm nearer Huddersfield too. But don't worry we're not yet at the school playground stage yet.

PamT · 12/07/2002 22:04

Bozza, we probably went to school together! Are you a WF postcode like me? I'm desperately trying to remember if I've said anything incriminating in any of my posts now - just in case.

Bozza · 16/07/2002 11:02

PamT don't worry we are an HD postcode. Also I didn't grow up around here so will not have any details of your murky past!!!

Tetley what size did you buy your son in Next? As I understand it the size should be 2 years but they seemed very big even though DS is fairly well-built.
