Naming ceremony - ideas for present

My friend has chosen me to be one of her dd's "special friends". I think this is a bit like a godparent but the ceremony is not religious.

I need ideas for a good present which has no religious conotatations - anyone have any? TIA

A nice piece of silver jewellry? A locket?

Or maybe a presentation coin pack from the royal mint?

A really fab present friends of ours got ds1 was a big box wrapped up, not to be opened until his 18th. From what they said, I think it's a kind of time capsule - a newspaper from that day, the no. 1 chart CD single etc. Thought that was a brill idea.

Ohh, the time capsule is a fab idea.

How about adopting an animal for them? Or naming a star after them?

Kit Heath do some nice silver nappy pins and you can get little charms for them.

My dd was given a lovely plate with her name and date of her christening-will try to find a link-can have anything written on it-doesn't have to mention the word christening.

Will try to find a link for you.

here

I know it says chirstening but I know they could replace the words with "on your naming day"

Buy an acre of rainforest for her from the Nature Conservancy ?

we don't buy religious presents even for christenings - nicely-bound editions of classics like the Just So Stories, Pooh, Alice, 1001 Arabian Nights etc always go down well.

had a naming ceremony for my two boys and someone gave them a piece of sandstone from the cliffs where their father proposed to me and chiseled their names in it.

I like nice editions of books as well - the Narnia stories, Shirley Hughes, nursery rhymes etc.

Do you know what the child's name is going to be (I am aware that this might sound like a daft question but I have known people who didn't actually publicize a baby's name until it was announced at the ceremony) There are various "name" presents you can get: I think someone does solid silver letters that you can use to make up the name on the mantlepiece... Other ideas I've heard of are buying premium bonds in the LOs name or wine of the sort that one lays down for 18 years.

what about this this its a naming day plate everyone can sign on the day
