In a pub ber garden on Friday night.Nice beer garden with a 2 climbing frames grass areas and picnic tables.Landlady came along with 2 scotti dogs a nd one done a poo in front of where we were sitting. When the dog had finished she calmly called the dogs and went inside. We sat there stunned. We stayed there for an hour after and she never came out and picked it up.I went over to the climbing frame where my children had been playing and there was another pile.Do you reckon this is allowed. It is her property I suppose but I was outraged and want to know if I am over reacting. If it is not allowed who do I complain to

god how horrible.

it is her property but if food and drink can be consumed there i'm sure it must be illegal.

i wouldn't have been able to keep my mouth shut i'm afraid . (but have shamed many dog owners into picking up after their dogs!)

Is it an independent pub or one of a chain? If the latter, write to the MD of the brewery indicating that you have no intention of ever setting foot in one of their pubs again. What about health and safety? I suspect this might fall under their remit.

I will find out.Am I over reacting anyway then?

No. It's disgusting - and I'm speaking as a dog owner.

maisystar · 19/07/2004 22:49

no not over reacting at all.

happycat · 19/07/2004 22:49

Oh I really don't have anything against dogs at all I just don't want my children playing with dog poo.I am going to look into it

If it advertises itself as 'child friendly' (which I assume it must do if it has children's playthings) .... Trading Standards? I'd definitely do something

If the pub's got play equipment I would say it's trying to be child-friendly. I'd get in touch with both the brewery and the environmental health department, through the council.

I'd also have been tempted to scoop it all up in one of her pint glasses and dump it on the bar for all to see.

I have just reported them to local council. They said that it is still not on even though it is on their property it is still a public place and they are going to look into it.Now I feel worried that there might be some come back on me.I asked to remain anom do you think they will stick to theie word? They still took my name address and phone number, why do you think they needed this?

Happycat, they'll need your details, as if there is a prosecution, you may need to make a statement of what you saw. The pub might try claiming that the dog poo was left by a customer's dog otherwise!

I'm sure they won't hand out your details to the landlord, though.

Don't worry, you did the right thing.

Fio2 · 22/07/2004 12:48

happycat they will just send a warning letter, dont worry they wont give your details and I doubt very much it will end in a prosecution at this stage. The lanlady will most probably take heed and clean up after her dogs, or better still let them do their business in a 'different' area. I would make my dogs poo elsewhere if I was running a pub, it really is dirty and i have dogs!
