Not voting goes against everything I beleive in.

'Weird how people say they won't vote Tory will vengence yet no one says it about Labour and they have been just as bad if not worse.'

I know plenty of people who say they'll never vote Labour.

TwoIfBySea · 15/04/2007 22:29

Well I wish they said it more in this area Gobbledigook!

And yes, I do consider them worse than the Tories were, and as I explained, the Tories were w**kers but everyone knew that, they didn't try to hide it or send in their rent-a-crowd at every (photo) opportunity. Labour now are nothing like what they were 10 years ago and they are getting worse.

Blair was a Thatcherite, just like his dad regardless of his Govan upbringing. It was his wife made him go Labour and that is a whole other fish to fry!

All those promises they made were lies, and not wishing to sound too much like Aloha, this country is in a hell of a worse position socially than we were 10 years ago. Labour have lied so much they probably wouldn't know the truth if it bit them in the arse.

edam · 15/04/2007 22:34

Um, I hate Tony Blair and what his hijacking of the Labour party has done to the country. But to claim the Tories were honest about being gits is just plain wrong. My mother was a Whitehall civil servant during the Thatcher years and some of the skullduggery that went on was amazing.

TwoIfBySea · 15/04/2007 22:54

Ah but you see Edam, the Tories were easy to hate, they were like the posh team on The Young Ones tv show version of University Challenge. Very 'up yours, daddy's got a porsche!'

pointydog · 15/04/2007 22:57

you say you hate the alternative but later you said teh libdem person had done good things for the area (or did I misread?)

if so, don;t see the issue. I'd vote for a hardworking councillor who did things for his or her commun ity regardless of party.

edam · 15/04/2007 23:16

Still are, TIBS, but now come in special 'sheep's clothing' disguise.

TwoIfBySea · 16/04/2007 10:00

Not such a clever disguise really as it is hard to tell which party is which now.

As Private Eye called it, Tony Blair has found his successor...in David Cameron.

Glad I would never in a million years vote for either of them!

Does the Monster Loony Raving Party still exist? Maybe you should vote for them. Was surprised to see a party political broadcast for the BNP, talk about sheeps clothing, and they managed to keep their racist taunts out of it until the last part when the mask slipped and out it came. There are no BNP councillors in Scotland and I hope common sense keeps it that way.

BizzyDint · 16/04/2007 10:10

i think you should either stand yourself or vote for the lib dem.

my local councillor is bnp and i just hope so much that we don't end up bnp in may. it is down to those who don't vote as much as anything else. i at least feel happy that of those who did vote, most people did not vote bnp.

i would hate to vote tory, but i'd do it if the alternative was bnp or not voting.

throckenholt · 16/04/2007 10:19

only read halfway through this thread - but have you thought of lobbying labour ? Ask them why they are not fielding a candidate in your area? It seems wrong that the party in government doesn't even bother to contest certain places.

Seems like a good arguement for pr to me.

UnquietDad · 16/04/2007 10:23

A friend of mine who has stood as a councillor in the past says that in these circumstances you should spoil your paper - write "NO CANDIDATE" or "RE-OPEN NOMINATIONS" on it.

UnquietDad · 16/04/2007 10:26

bbs"Spoiling your ballot paper is no different to not voting. It is not voting."

It's different in one major way. It's counted.

If you don't turn up, nobody will ever know how you feel, but the number of spoilt ballots must be counted AND DECLARED. An awful lot of spoilt papers in one ward sends a message for the winning candidate to think about.
