Moving house but staying in the same area - what made you decide to go for it?

I've been mulling over moving for a while now
Can't decide whether to attempt to move up the ladder or to stay put for another year

My parents reckon the price gap between our place and the next step is growing so we should move sooner rather than later

If you moved house without moving area what made you go for it?

The prices are just goign up and up. We moved a few months ago for the garden and extra room downstairs and parking- we can get all 3 cars on the drive we were in a terraced with parking on the road before.

we waited for a house next to the river (there are only 4 in our village) - we 'downsized' anyway though so it wasn't based particularly on price, mainly on waiting for the right house to come on the market.

Hello !

We moved just round the corner (literally 3 mins walk) - we love the area but wanted more room and a detached house. We had been intending to do it for a while and then our house came on the market so we decided to go for it ! House prices and gaps definitely getting bigger round these parts (so therefore assume yours are too) so probably best to get on with it if you can face it at the mo.

I think we could sell no problem, just a bit worried about how hard it would be to find somewhere to buy

hello - am ok thanks. How's nameless dd getting on ?

If you think you'd sell no probs then why not keep an eye out for property in the area you want to move to and then wait till you see one for sale ? Obviously a risk that if the one you want is popular the seller may go for someone else if you're not in such a good position. Thats essentially what we did and were fortunate to get a buyer for our house on the day we put it on the market (we were very lucky).

TheBlonde · 14/04/2007 08:31

we only moved a mile away - to a bigger house. We ran out of room in the old one, which we bought pre-dd! This one has a dining room and a garage!
A year after we moved, a friend did the same thing, and for the same reasons. Sometimes when we talk about our big mortgage we wish we'd stayed put..

Bucketsofdynomite · 16/04/2007 09:43

We moved a mile away but better schools, all walking distance, period house and nicer area all round really.
Currently struggling somewhat with increased mortgage though - I may have to get a job soon and def no more babies for some years. Could have maintained very chilled lifestyle with former mortgage in scummy area but we had to start thinking about schools and snobbish stuff like that.

1 mile away. Into town centre
Old cottage instead of modern,
Smaller garden=less work for me!
Got good price on sale of house
Got good price on cottage(no off road parking)
Half the mortgage

Good luck!
