jane313 · 17/07/2004 23:18

Jane, of course. It needs to be revived as no-one under 25 is called it and its will be like Winifred in a few years time.

James Luca or Jude Laurence for a boy
Josephine Lily for a girl

Not sure I'd be very pleased if I discovered that I had been given certain names only to make a pleasing pattern in the family name book . A friend has 6 boys and has given them all names beginning with J - which will make it fun when they all start receiving letters addressed to Mr. J. *, unless they insist that all correspondence include their middle initials.

zebra · 18/07/2004 10:26

Judith (Judy) Lynne.

Davros · 18/07/2004 10:50

Yes, why do they care about the initials matching? Have noticed that Luca has become fashionable. My nephew recently called his baby son Jude (weird or everyone associates it with film star). I always liked Juliet but worried it would get shortened to Julie, Jules etc.

Bunglie · 18/07/2004 10:55

How about JL It is quite fashionable, though not my taste just to have initials, and think when she gets oldre her friends cans say they have 'been to jail, gaol' Sorry but I think a baby should be named out of love and because the names having meaning to the parents rather than because of the way that they 'look' I think your friend needs a talking to IMO, sorry!

wilbur · 18/07/2004 11:22

Names I think are lovely with the right initials - Jasper, Josephine, Joanna, Johnny (John), Jamie (James), Jessamy, Julia, Louisa, Lawrence, Lana, Lizzie, Louis, Lily, Lillian.

It's quite a good way to narrow it down, start with initials and go from there.

My friend has called all her children names starting with "S" - nothing wrong with it imo.

I think:

J - Jack, Jacob, Jessie/Jesse and Jasmine

L - Louise or Laurence are really good middle names I think. (and first names too - don't want to offend anyone!)

Davros · 18/07/2004 12:10

The only thing is that it restricts the choice but I suppose its a way of narrowing it down.

SoupDragon · 18/07/2004 12:54

I don't think they need a good talking to at all. Lots of families have naming traditions but that doesn't mean the names aren't chosen with love. The names I chose for DSs are celtic and my Mythical Third Child would have a celtic name to fit in - the name would still be chosen and bestowed with love

Jimjams · 18/07/2004 13:12

My mum and her 5 siblings are all J's, and my aunts 4 (and me - although that's just conincidence) are all CL's Anyway the L's are Louise, Letita, Lee (a girl) Luke, Laura. The J's are John, Jimmy, Josephine, Jenny, Jeffery, and Judy.

lou33 · 18/07/2004 13:50

I love Luca, I wanted to call ds2 it.

prufrock · 19/07/2004 10:58

Absolutely nothing wrong with choosing by initials - my dh's only name begins with J, my middle name is Josephine and we chose Jane as dd's middle name because it went well with her first name. So when ds arrived it was natural for us to choose a middle name that began with J as well.
