How many of you knowingly buy pirate videos?
are any of you concerned about the criminality behind this>

never ever buy anything like that (any fake goods I mean), always buy from 'reputable' shops as have seen several reports on what lies behind this type of trade

We buy them and it scarcely makes a dent in industry profits.FACT are funded by this industry so its in their interest to suggest we're all funding organised crime by buying them.Cost price of a video or dvd is approx 2 pounds so imo the film companies are the ones guilty of organised (highly organised)crime.

Azure · 16/07/2004 14:14

I'm sorry, but buying pirate videos / DVDs is a form of theft and does fund organised crime, including the IRA. There is also massive exploitation of some people selling them, thinking in particular of certain Chinese sellers in London. Yes, the cost of a video of DVD may be quite low, but that does not include the cost of royalties payable for the product, the marketing and shipping costs, the retailers' cut etc etc. Obviously the film industry isn't a charity, but it does fund a lot of loss-making product for any blockbuster it may have. Apart from all this, the quality of pirated product obtained by literally filming with a camcorder in the cinema is so appalling, the rip-off is the pirated product.

I HATE pirates.the quality is Cr@p- I was very annoyed to receive a Disney one from e-bay at xmas for daughter.. (i notified Disney and E-bay.. but don't know what action was taken..)

Twinkie · 16/07/2004 14:34

But Debbie Harry as with all goods if the crime aspect was cut out producers would be able to knock the prices down - not saying that they would but like wih shoplifting we all pay for that with a premium on all goods.

TBH I don;t think the fact that things cost a lot is a good enough reason to brand the producers crime bosses and break the law by buying pirate anything.
