Dp thinks that now ds2 is 3 (well, from tomorrow), he should be starting to remember to tidy up after he's been playing with stuff.

I think she's bonkers and we'll need to be asking/telling him to tidy up for a good while yet.

She said why don't you start a thread - she's convinced there are squillions of thoughtful 3 year olds out there who put their toys away once they've played with them...

Prove me right!!

My nearly 3 year old will only tidy up if you help and even then usually disappears part way through. The other day she pulled all her books off her bookshelf and refused to put them back. After 2 hours of repeatedly telling her I said that i would be getting a big bag and any that were on the floor would be put into it and taken away. Only then did she put the first one back Moral victory was won though as after another half an hour they were all back on the shelf!!!!

Now when books are on the floor she says, if i don't put them back you'll get a big bag and they'll be taken away.

Tidy up by herslf? Maybe in a few more years and even then I assume i'll have to ask her to do it first!

Marina - you're right - she's very Pollyanna-ish! Unfortunately this doesn't fit too well with having 2 ds's..!

Now ds2 has turned 3 I'll be having a Serious Talk with him about tidying up...

my ds has tidied up from of 3 without being asked, he has also hoovered, dusted and now he is 7 has started to put the washing machine on.

He is brilliant

dd aged 4 takes a bit more persuading and can whinge loads but she loves hoovering!!

DD (3 last month) doesn't do anything without being asked. Seventy three times. At increasing volume.

Actually, come to think of it, I have to give MYSELF a good talking-to before I tidy up, so it's not surprising. So genetics, bad example, plus the fact that 3yos seem to be sociopaths*, no chance.

  • Why did no one tell me? I thought it was 2yos that were difficult?!

I have a 2yo who tidies, sweeps and mops without being asked.
Deffo gets it from dh's side of the family!
