BIL shocked & scared me today by holding DS2 over the rails of the river Thames.

Took the boys to London today to meet my parents, sister & BIL who have been staying there over the w/e.
We decided to take the boys on the river boat & while waiting for the boat, BIL thought it would be a great joke to pick up my little boy & hold him over the rails!
He only did it for a split second & insists he had a tight hold of him, but it frightened the hell out of me & made me very angry.
What if he had lost his grip, or DS had wriggled away? It doesn't bear thinking about & makes me feel sick.
Poor DS seemed a little shaky after & I was just totally shocked & still feel sick thinking about it now.
My sister & parents were also very shocked with him. I just can't believe he did it, I really can't. Bloody idiot!

DS is ok & no harm was done, but it's the thoughts of what could have happened.

She was cross with him & told him that it was utterly stupid.
Haven't spoken to her since, as they are still travelling home.

WTF...who does he think he is...Michael bloody Jackson or what!
Complete dimwit tosspott, imo...!

Pinkchampagne · 08/04/2007 21:28

My sister does get angry with him when he behaves like this.

What a fucking idiot.

3easterbunniesandnomore · 08/04/2007 21:31

but
for you...alhtough a [severely pissed off emoticon] would be much more suitable.

Troutpout · 08/04/2007 21:32

aww pink ..bet that was horrible
i would be thinking about it all day .. and i bet it gives you a horrible shiver every time you think of it.
He made a stupid stupid mistake...i expect your sister is ripping him apart as we speak if she's got any sense.
I'm sure (hope) he picked up on the fact that what he did was madness.
Silly man

Aloha · 08/04/2007 21:32

He's an idiot and he owes you an apology - though doubt you'll ever get one.
Never let him get that close to the kids again?

compo · 08/04/2007 21:35

Oh dear, I think I'm the only one but I feel a teeny bit sorry for him (BIL that is). I agree with Franny that he was probably just trying to be the funny whacky Uncle and it went wrong. It sounds like he was aware what you all thought, including SIL (his wife?) so he probably feels ultra bad about what he did

Busybean · 08/04/2007 21:36

Just like my BIL, when ds1 was about 20 months he had him on his shoulders and ran accross a road with him in front of an oncoming car, me and dp could of killed him. Thing is, he now has his own kid and is still as irresponsible

Pinkchampagne · 08/04/2007 21:51

I do understand that he was obviously trying to crack a wacky joke, I know he wouldn't want to cause upset, but this joke of his scared me & made me feel sick.

to hear about your BIL behaving so irresponsibly too, BB.

FrannyandZooey · 08/04/2007 22:12

No I feel sad for him

sad that he is such an arse

and that he seems to see children as 'things' to play funny jokes on rather than small people with feelings of their own

We are no way saying that you should not feel , PC. It's no excuse, just maybe some insight into his motivation

Pinkchampagne · 08/04/2007 22:24

I know that it was all a joke that went badly wrong for him. He often does really stupid things & my sister always gets angry with him because of them.
After he did this, DS was on the verge of tears & my sister made it very clear to him that he had not only frightened me, but also scared DS himself.

Thank god ds2 is okay pinkchampagne, that's the main thing.

But my god, I could swing for your f**king idiot BIL.

Pinkchampagne · 08/04/2007 22:48

I just can't believe he did something so irresponsible & dangerous, tribpot.

OP posts:
tribpot · 08/04/2007 22:52

I know. If my BIL had done such a thing I would have probably tried to kill him. As he is a Marine, I probably would not have succeeded but am absolutely livid - and just shocked - on your behalf. If anyone did that to ds ..... I can't imagine.

Pinkchampagne · 09/04/2007 11:04

DS2 is totally fine & no real harm was done, but he was frightened at the time & I can't stop thinking of the "what ifs"
I don't think he will ever apologise, but after the reaction he got, I don't think he will ever do something that stupid again.

hercules1 · 09/04/2007 11:07

That is awful.

Not on the same scale but I was really cross when my bil thought it would be funny to throw a nut into ds's mouth from across the other side of the room.

What an idiot! I can't believe he has been so stupid!, no excuses, there are jokes and jokes but if he can come with something so dangerous as this he is really not trustworthy around your child regardless of his "good" intentions. Bloody idiot!

zookeeper · 09/04/2007 11:30

I would be livid

Pinkchampagne · 09/04/2007 14:15

Nobody found it even slightly amusing & I think it was clear to him pretty quickly that we were all shocked & angry that he had done this.
