I am about to start my maternity leave to have my second baby and feel that my company is treating me very unfarely. My first maternity policy included a number of extra weeks pay due to my position. Second time around (my position is the same) they are refusing to give me anymore money their excuses being that as of April 2004 maternity leave has been extended to 52 weeks. I have pointed out that this is throughout the country , half of which is unpaid and it is not compulsory as well as having nothing to do with Company Policy. I also feel I am being inched out of my job for various reasons.

My other question is this, I am the main bread winner in the house my partner earns very little I own the morgage, pay for the child care, bills etc obviously the £100 per week that I will be paid by the government is not going to suffice is there any way we can claim some sort of other benefit to help us until I return to work?

If anybody knows some answers or can recommend a Maternity/Paternity Lawyer ideally in South East London I would be really grateful.

calcium - what's in your contract of employment about maternity entitlement and/or does your company have a policy on maternity leave?

You might get extra Tax Credits as your income will be reduced?
