How far should I go ?

Tomorrow I am going to have my legs and bikini line waxed, for the first time in ages (those who know me know I had lots of surgery and stuff last year, and I have really let myself go).

Anyway, as regards my bikini line, how far should I go? I really fancy a brazilian I think (looking for exotic changes in my life you see), but after all last years discomfort will I stand the pain?

And, well it make a difference to my ... errrrm ....(whispers) sex life if I have more taken off?

What do you think ladies (contributions from the mans point of view also welcome).

ahem......(whispers.....it feels nicer when you have sex when theres nothing there)

sweetkitty · 15/07/2004 16:46

I would go for it, for yourself it just feels cleaner and tidier. The man in my life loves it too.

mckenzie · 15/07/2004 16:51

while we're on the subject, can I ask please how quickly it all grows back? Is it the same as the 'rest' of the bikini line?
and is the waxing more painful in certain places than in others?

sponge · 15/07/2004 16:53

Go as far as you feel confortable with and as far as you think your other half will feel comfortable with.
You can always take it a bit further next time if you both like the idea.

bump

Any other advice

No idea about the pain but - hey - why don't you do the lot? Then you'd know. Just a thought...

(of course, then you'd have to tell us ALL about it...)

a friends husband said that her brazilian wax looked like a fish finger.

Waxing depends on how sensitive your skin is. Anywhere near that region for me ends up looking like a terrible angry red rash which is frankly never going to be sexy!

motherinferior · 15/07/2004 20:00

(Twiglett, I suspect I am just encouraging Easy to do something I'd never to either - but she does want to!)

HelloMama · 15/07/2004 20:40

I don't find bikini waxing that bad as its very quick if you get it done professionally, however last time i went the girl was a bit more 'thorough' than usual and waxed round the back (if you get what I mean) and ouch! I felt that! I didn't even know I had any hair there! The results were very nice though and DH loves it when i've just had it done so it does make it worth it! You can wear all those small knickers you normally avoid for fear of everything poking out! I'm going tomorrow as I'm 1 week away from my due date and I'm going to ask for it to be extra 'thorough' so that if I need any stitches or anything after the birth (ouch ouch ouch...) they can really see what they're doing and not mess them up!

Easy · 16/07/2004 11:24

MI you're right, I do want to, just afraid that she'll do one strip nearer the .... erm ...target area (!!!) and I'll scream "NO, No Stop" and be left looking, well ridiculous.

Think I might take a couple of paracetamol before hand.

HelloMama,
Have you had waxing done before when you've been close to your due date?

That's sounds dumb but I think you know what I mean...

When I had my waxing done just before DS, it was incredibly painful. I've been having my bits waxed for more years than I'd like to admit to and never really had a problem before. Think it was a hormone/relaxin thing.

Just thought I'd better warn you .....

BR

sweetkitty · 16/07/2004 12:12

I'm booking myself in 2 weeks before my due date as well.

I've always found (erm how shall I put this) the "mound" at the front far more painful than the sides and back (if you get what I mean).

It does hurt like hell for a split second when she is doing it but it is fine after that.

codswallop · 16/07/2004 12:14

HOw come everyone used to go bananas about comulsory shaving before birth and now you all do it yourselves??
isnt this a rather bizarre change

CountessDracula · 16/07/2004 12:18

dh asked the nurse who was shaving me before my csection if I could have a brazilian!

Twinkie · 16/07/2004 12:22

Read that you shouldn't have it done jsu before you are due as will hurt more and is more prone to bruising etc!!

I brought myself a Remington Trim and Shape and will just use that to trim longer hairs and shave round the edge with it.

I don;' understand waxing - looks ok for such a short time and then you have stubble and in growing hairs and those around your bum can' be comfy!! I had it done - quite small strip just once and DP found it a bit yuck he said it wasn;t very grown up womanly IYKWIM!!

Bibiboo · 16/07/2004 12:28

I took it all off once (with immac not wax as I am a baby) and thought it looked horrid. Was mortified at the shape of my bits from the front and in mirror and dh didn't think it looked very grown-up either IYKWIM. I just trim as neatly as I can now. You brave ladies who wax it all have my admiration though

Twinkie · 16/07/2004 12:53

Bits down their look like a fat mound when you shave or wax all the hair off - be warned!!

Easy · 16/07/2004 15:45

Well, Janette (the beautician) wouldn't wax it all off, or even do a brazilian, as when she started my bikini line it went VERY red, she said she hadn't seen anyone go that red before.

Probably just cos I've not had it done for soooo long. So she suggested we just do a little bit more each time I have it done, until we do it all !!! I suppose it ensures her repeat business.

lostinparis · 16/07/2004 16:18

She's right, that's the easiest way to get used to the whole process + it gives you a chance to see how it's looking (rather than having a shock!). My sister tells me that she uses one of those sports gels before she goes for a Brazilian (it acts a bit like a local anaesthetic).
One thing I keep wondering about this whole waxing business is that it looks great in the first week, then okish in week 2 and then dh starts really complaining about the regrowth in the last week (maybe I'm admitting to being very hairy but beautician just won't consider redoing it in under 3 weeks as she says the hairs aren't long enough) - sometimes I just wonder whether shaving would look better more consistently (although clearly it's a hassle)?

  • the other thing I wonder about is how much hair to get rid of - I have a very enthusiastic beautician who seems to want to wax everything apart from my scalp. At the moment I just do full leg, full bikini and underarm but I wonder whether all the other women out there are also doing their arms, any facial hair (incl I understand in America some do nasal hair!), any stomach hair, etc etc basically anywhere a hair dares to grow apart from the top of the head? Any views anyone?
HelloMama · 16/07/2004 17:32

yes you're right, waxing definitely hurts more during pregnancy! I was always ok before but have been taking to yelp the last few times I've been. I missed my appointment today and cant find another place to go locally so think I may also have to take to the Trim and Shape (I've got one too!). Thing is, I can't see what I'm doing now and I don't really fancy roping in DH to help! Oh dear, the indignities of pregnancy! It'll end up a real wonky botch job and i'm now bound to go into labour this evening!!! (if only...)

Clarinet60 · 16/07/2004 23:14

Twinkie! A fat mound!!! That's the funniest thing I've ever heard - DH nearly looked round when he heard me snorting!

sweetkitty · 17/07/2004 17:47

I found a freckle I never knew I had the first time I got it done
