Recipe for bubble machines?

Miaou · 14/07/2004 20:42

Dh bought dds a bubble machine each - looks like a mini hairdryer and has batteries. They are brilliant - but of course we ran out of bubble mixture very quickly.

Anyone got a foolproof "recipe" for the liquid to make best bubbles?

Ta muchly.

Take your pick:

Recipe # 1
1 quart water
12 teaspoons glycerine
8 teaspoon liquid green soap
Mix and let stand overnight. Hint: gycerine can be found at most drug stores.

Recipe # 2
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup liquid detergent
1 tablspoon cooking oil
Mix together and have fun blowing bubbles!

Recipe # 3
1 cup water
2 Tbsp. Light Karo Syrup
4 Tbsp. dishwashing liquid
Mix together to use.

Recipe # 4
2 tablespoon dish soap
1 cup water
Mix together and use.

Colourful Bubbles

Recipe # 1
1 cup granulated soap or soap powder
1 quart warm water
liquid food coloring
Dissolve soap in warm water. Stir in food coloring. Use.

Recipe # 2
1 cup liquid tempra paints (use a washable variety)
2 tablespoon dish detergent
1 tablespoon liquid starch
Mix together. If too thick, add a little water, a teaspoon at a time. Note: this recipe can create messy bubbles.

Do these recipes definitely not block the guns? I'm interested because I put on my website bla bla you can refill with dilute washing up liquid but when I told someone in the shop this he said he'd jammed it up by using non manufacture bubbles (so I took it off). How long does a bottle of 115ml bubbles last? I sell them for 75p (which seems expensive to me if they don't last long.)
I thought I could steal these recipes and put them on the website if they don't block the gun (or are they copyright?)

I get the huge tubs Soupdragon mentioned. It is a big tub - about 2 litres? - for £5. We have a big bubble machine and it lasts quite a long while.

lemonice · 15/07/2004 11:10

HB At that rate my bubbles would cost £13.00. I shall have to see if my supplier will start doing economy tubs.

Hulababy · 15/07/2004 11:44

Just checked and yes, look - 2 litres for £5. There small bottles are £1 though which seems expensive.

SoupDragon · 15/07/2004 11:48

No stock though Hulababy! Clearly bubble mixture is popular right now

WedgiesMum · 15/07/2004 11:51

We use 8 cups water, 4 cups washing up liquid, one table spoon glycerine. But be careful on grass as if spl=illed it will decimate your lawn!!!!

Hulababy · 15/07/2004 11:54

They had them instore locally (Sheffield) on Monday evening. Not much use to many people here I guess though!

champs · 15/07/2004 21:07

hi!! which machines have you all got, looking to get ds's one for summer.

Hulababy · 15/07/2004 21:09

We have this ELC one . It is really good. Churns out loads of bubbles at once. DD loves to dance around trying to catch them. It is always a winner when friends come round.

SoupDragon · 15/07/2004 21:10

ELC one is indeed fabulous!
