Or rather the GPS from his company car. It was stolen three months ago (2000 pounds worth) and I told him if it was replaced the thieves would only come back and steal it again. Unfortunately three months later and I'm proved right. Another 2000 pounds worth gone.

What is gps?

Sory to hear about this, it is upsetting when things like this happen, my dp's work van got broken into in january & they stole his sat nav worth £300, i told him not to bother getting another one because it would only get stolen again, luckily he has not bothered & has listened to me for once

Have you called the police?

Nbg · 05/04/2007 07:45

That sucks Belgo

Very sad when you cant have these things.

gscrym · 05/04/2007 07:47

When it gets replaced again, would it be possible to get one he can remove from the car?

belgo · 05/04/2007 07:47

GPS is sat nav. That's what we call it in Belgium. If my dh had owned it, he would not have gotten a new one, but it's all from his company and they replaced it no problem, despite the fact we don't have a garage. He's gone to the police.

Nbq - I don't really care whether we have it or not (we're not into mod cons). It's more the feeling that our car has been broken into outside our house.

and the feeling that we've stupidly given the theives a very expensive gift by having the first one replaced.

2k GPS - wow that's a mega model.

Is it not removable?

He could try leaving a road atlas visible on the passenger seat so that if they return again, they think he's given up replacing it.

I heard that it is not uncommon, partic with businesses for thieves to wait long enough for the insurance to replace laptops, sat navs and other lightweight valuables before they hit again.

Belgo its such a shame that these seem to be the target now of crime, people seem to go on the rounds each night, its because of the prie of them & they are probably so easy to sell on.

I think you can blue tooth them from a mobile & this is how they find out where they are, this is what the police said to my dp, it is hard, dp needed it because it is hard to read a map & drive he is on call in his job & traves everywhere so it was a great device for him to have, there is no way he will be getting another one.

It's a horrible feeling. I always wonder why companies feel they need to have loads of gadgets in cars. I know most of the company cars at DH's work have all sorts of buttons, gizmos and other things. I never understand it because the more expensive the car, the higher the tax on it.

I hope it gets resolved so that the car isn't a target again.

gscrym · 05/04/2007 07:57

We got our flat broken into, 3 months later, they came back. By that time, we had a dog and an alarm in the house so they turned over our neighbour instead.

belgo · 05/04/2007 07:58

Scooby doo- that's interesting. It was a professional job, very neatly done. They obviously don't want to damage such expensive equipment.

I don't think my dh will ask to get it replaced.

We'd only had it a few months, and already gotton used to the convenience when driving around Europe.

We could never afford such an expensive gadget ourselves.

gscrym - we're very fortunate they targeted the car not our house (we own very little of value).

I also think it's ridiculous all the options my dh gets when it comes to choosing his company car. But he has earned it.

We've found a basic Sat Nav system (TomTom) to be great, and they're only around £200. You can get one that covers Europe as well. They can be removed from the car completely. Apparently you also need to remember to clean the mark they leave on the windscreen though, as this is a giveaway to thieves that you've got one.

thanks Laura.
