Will be staying Tues night with my Mum so have the whole of Wednesday.

We've done the London Eye, was thinking of doing London Duck Tours but it's £53 and the only available slot was 4.30. I know that everything for 4 people will cost about that but that only lasts an hour or so.

Any ideas? Ma lives close to Oxford St and I'm not getting on a tube.

TIA

Katymac · 02/04/2007 20:54

Hmm - don't know how you get there but Th e museum of CHildhood at Bethnal Green is FAB

spudmasher · 02/04/2007 20:55

Ha ha! Read my mind!
Could you stretch to the Lion King?

Carmenere · 02/04/2007 20:55

The London Aquarium is good, not WOW but very nice.

EllieKthePA · 02/04/2007 20:56

the science museum.
the childrens floor made ds and the other children we took go WOW

spudmasher · 02/04/2007 20:57

I'm sure you've been there, but you can't beat the dinosaurs in the Natural history museum.

spudmasher · 02/04/2007 20:57

If they have done Egypt at school then the British Museum has that wow factor.

earlgrey · 02/04/2007 21:02

Thanks everyone. I'm sure we could get to museum of childhood by bus. They went to the SM last year with their cousin. They haven't done Egypt yet and I may save that till they have. Do you think the NPG will be excrutiatingly boring for them? Na, think I've answered that question myself.

I grew up just outside of London and spent every weekend as a teenager "in town" but whenever I'm back I always take a boat trip from Westminster to Tower Bridge or vice versa, as long as the weather's reasonable. It's just a really enjoyable 1/2 hr, that's made all the better if you go on a boat that (a) does a commentary and (b) sells drinks. I first went on a river cruise whilst on a school trip when I was nine and there's still something ridiculously exciting about buying a bottle of pop on a boat...?!

McCadburysDreamyegg · 02/04/2007 21:03

I would have said the Lion King too - amazing!

crunchie · 02/04/2007 21:03

My kids still talk about teh open top bus ride we did. It is still about £50 for 4, but you can go all day on it

You can get off and on wherever you want. we got on at embankment, off at Buck house to watch the changing of the guard and see hwere queen victoria lived (helped that DD1 had been doing the victorians at school!! ) On again around loads of places, off at trafalgar square to chase pigeons and have a coffee, on again to see tower of london and monument etc (again helped by teh fire of london project at school!!)

Seriously they loved it , as did me and my parents as we saw stuff from that angle we wouldn't normally see. The kids have a commentry they can dip in and out of and there is loads of stuff (on a nice day) to just watch. You also get free tickets to a thames boat ride which they liked too.

I would do it again in all honestly, check what they have done at school in history and you would be suprised at what takes their fancy.

BTW I know London well having spent loads of time there and lived there for years, and I loved it too My girls were 5 and 7 (I think) when we went

McCadburysDreamyegg · 02/04/2007 21:05

How about the Whispering Gallery in St Pauls cathedral - it's great fun once you get going - thats' how DH propsed to me! Could do it as part of your open top bus tour!

friendlyedjit · 02/04/2007 21:05

what about tate modern and that big slide - carsten holler-unilever series looks fab open until the 14th

TeeCee · 02/04/2007 21:12

London Eye then boat ride up the Thames.
Pretty bloody wowish.

From Oxford St you could walk down Argyle St, into Libertys then wander down Carnaby St and round soho.

Why do tubes btw?

Katymac · 02/04/2007 21:17

You can get the bus rides on your Tescos vouchers - Too late for Earlgrey - but maybe next time

elasticbandstand · 02/04/2007 21:18

sxcuse me, where do yu get boat trip from?

spudmasher · 02/04/2007 21:20

Embankment pier or London Bridge pier.

elasticbandstand · 02/04/2007 21:21

thanks

Molesworth · 02/04/2007 21:21

oh willywonka I feel the same!

Love getting that boat - we do it regularly

TwinklemEGGan · 02/04/2007 21:22

Agree British Museum is pretty wow.

spudmasher · 02/04/2007 21:22

No no no no!!! Tower bridge pier, not london bridge pier.

willywonkasEgghunt · 02/04/2007 21:22

From Westminster boats leave from piers on the House of Commons side (opposite the London Eye), from Tower Bridge the piers are just next to the Tower of London. You can take longer journeys to, say, Greenwich or in the opposite direction to Hampton Court which is fine for adults but are probably too long for children, as nearly all of the key landmarks that can be viewed from the river are covered by the shorter route.

JodieG1 · 02/04/2007 21:23

Natural history museum has some great dinosaurs and ones that make sounds and I think move now.

willywonkasEgghunt · 02/04/2007 21:24

BTW - if you have a one-day Travelcard (which most people seem to use), you can get discount on many of the boat trips so it can be well worth checking
