Is ds baby-signing? Or is it an action to a nursery rhyme I don't know???

When we sing together, ds tends to point at the palm of his hand, very determinedly and deliberately. Usually to 'twinkle twinkle little start' or 'baa baa black sheep'.

He goes to nursery and one of the staff members there has done a baby signing course.

Any ideas what is he up to?? Is he signalling where I can put the payment for his vocal performance perhaps?

If it's Makaton it could be the letter L - does his name start with L or the name of someone significant?

Hmmm...not unless he has significantly bonded with his very occasional babysitter...or her dog!!!

or T?

Ask the nursery!

Sounds like the "T" in BSL. That's good. Ds has been taught the sign for vagina for Twinkle Twinkle (he doesn't hold his hands up so it just ends up as )

HopeIGetSomeMegaEggs · 02/04/2007 13:34

I have taught DS4 the correct sign for diamond beansprout ( I sneakily watched the excelleny Makaton mum and our last singing group to see what ity was)

beansprout · 02/04/2007 13:35

Please! What is it?!!!

Kelly1978 · 02/04/2007 13:36

maybe he made it up himself. I never taught ds1 baby signing but he made up his own signs for quite a few things. He was a late talker, so communicated via signs.

Tigana · 02/04/2007 13:36

at vagina!! (so to speak!)

Ah ha so he is probably signing T for Twinkle Twinkle?

My DS points to the palm of his hand - and its usually to round & round the garden... Perhaps yours is the same?

HopeIGetSomeMegaEggs · 02/04/2007 13:54

For diamond we make the sign for star but with a smaller motion and as if it's shining on the back of your other hand. Does that make sense and does anyone know if that's correct?

peachygirl · 02/04/2007 14:10

that is correct for diamond in Makaton
